Peter Chiarelli might me horribly bad at his job, but he is a genius when it comes to keeping it. I bet this move just bought him one more coach hiring, probably in the summer, no matter how things play out with Hitchcock.

Agreed, he's looking pretty good. Biggest concern off the hop is how much his stress will be elevated taking this job.

First of all, when I read Chia's statement that the lineup was fine and they needed a new voice, and that they would re-evaluate in the off season, it reminded me of Burger Bob's top to bottom audit that resulted in no change at all.
Its a clever way to protect your self and make the fans feel better.
Cleatus the Edmonton Yokel - ":Look ma, they're doing one of those top to bottom audits of that there Oilers Organization"
Ma - "That's right Cleatus, that means everything is goan be ok, trust the process"
Second of all, tonight my be must see TV, with Hitchock glaring angrily at McDavid after one of his lazy flybys.

Which is how they got here. Somehow hauling an interim coach out of retirement almost exactly as they did with Burns doesnt seem like its going to yield any significantly different results.

He looks like a stinking, awful Oiler if you ask me. Just disgusting in every regard. Enjoy the paycheck, this is not going to be fun for you.

I can't wait to see McDavid and Draisaitl being forced to play the neutral zone trap.

McDavid will be amazed that the Neutral Zone is used for things other than winding up speed.

Coincidentally enough, the definition of coaching the Oilers is the exact same as the definition of not coaching the Oilers.

Imagine what a relief it must be for MacLellan. I've never been to prison, but he must feel like he is out on parole or something. Imagine the nightmares he's had to endear season to season. I bet Connor McDavid has a whole players side of the bench thing going as well. Rosanne needs to hit the Oilers up for a new episode of the Connors.

Except you don't get paid $4.5M for being on parole. This is like being paid on your release from prison for wrongful conviction!

The oilers top dogs learning a shutdown trap system..

I actually think this is premature given how bad the Pacific is this year. Pretty sure they have multiple games in hand on The nucks. The oil management are showing that they can be pushed around by the fans inability to endure consecutive losses. Problem is if this doesn't work in the first couple weeks then it's right back to doom and gloom and there is a lottt of season left.
I would've saved a coaching change for January.

The guy who brought the Oilers so much heartache in the late 90's-early 2000's now gets to do so from the inside. I like it.

I'm not sure if anyone caught it. But Sid Sixeiro just went off on the Oilers organization. The rant was beautiful...lol.

Not a chance. This is a Hail Mary moonshot for him.
Even if they make the playoffs, I think he’s still canned then used as a marketing pitch to appease renewals.
We would all like him to stay, but it’s not like anyone can save them.
No one is going to be offering the franchise anything close to a life preserver via trade.
No one will help them. Everyone will gladly watch McDavid hump them into being a middling team or playoff bubble team at best.
Even if Katz gutted & purged the 80’s Oiled Boys Club, everyone would still see what McDavid is capable of and throw them anchors in trade proposals... so... best of luck building a team through your own drafting and development.

Ken Hitchcock coached teams have made it out of the 1st round of the playoffs 2 times since the 04-05 lockout. This includes four St. Louis teams who finished with more than 100 points, or on-pace for more than 100 points in a shortened season.

I actually had typed out something along the lines of to bad he just joined the Oilers, but I was legitimately impressed. I guess as all things Oilers, visually better.
Will have to save that picture and do an after shot in March.
