Out of those 4 teams. This was the least fun I've had watching Flames Hockey. I'd rather watch the Young Gunz over this team.

Well, they thought Glen would make history.

That home ice stat is actually pretty impressive over almost 4 decades. Kind of stunning actually when you look at this roster that they are in the mix with the Young Guns teams for futility.

Just to be fair, how does their road record match up in Flames history?

Strangest contrast in a long time.

I recall when Playfair was coach they couldnt win a game on the road to save their lives but their home record was amazing.

Putting some info from this and the Tippett thread together gave me this idea

Carolina wants a yes man GM and may need a new HC if Peters steps down or is fired.

Tippett wanted an expanded role in Arizona. He could be a HC/GM in Carolina. This leads me to my 2nd thought. What if Peters came in here as the HC and Gulutzan ended up as an assistant for the Flames?

Gulutzan needs to be sent as far away from this team as possible. That means that Gulutzan will be coaching the Port-Aux-Francais Penguins next year, and Calgary will be much better off.

The Baffin Island Polar Bears.

No....they're not a Hockey Team.

What’s the over/under on “Gulutzan fired” threads tomorrow (April fools)? I’d set the line at 4. Might go as high as 6 if we lose bad tonight.

Bill Peters in Carolina supported by the owner in the media. Well, let's just say not blamed.

And I didn't know Peters has his option to leave this summer, even though he's under contract for another year, so the owner may well know he's moving on, on his own, and won't fire shots.

Alberta guy. In my opinion, not exactly the guy this team needs...along with the fire I think there needs to be proven recent NHL success so there is no doubt amongst the players that the coaches techniques have been proven to work.
But we' ll see. There have been rumblings about him the last while.

“I think it got going when I came here because we had young players who weren’t ready to play in the league but they had played in the league already,” Tippett said, referring to such players as Kyle Turris, Peter Mueller and Mikkel Boedker, who were infamously rushed to the NHL by the previous regime. “Everybody tells me ‘you don’t like young players.’ Well, at that time, we were trying to save a franchise and make it competitive again. What was happening in the past wasn’t working.”

Within three seasons, Tippett took a veteran-laden team to the Western Conference Final and energized the local hockey community like never before. That team relied on a strong blue line and the goaltending of Mike Smith, so let’s start with that first myth about Tippett: that he is a defensive-minded coach who struggles with offensive players.

“I think that’s a horse(expletive) rumor,” said Hall of Fame center Mike Modano, who played for Tippett in Dallas from 2002-2009. “Being around him for so long and hearing his philosophy on the game and how it’s played, I can tell you he loves nothing more than a skilled player. Like any coach, he just wants his skilled players to have a little bit of responsibility and roundness to their game, rather than being one-dimensional.”

Tippett’s Dallas years fly in the face of the notion that he can’t coach offense. In three of Tippett’s first five seasons in Dallas, the Stars finished among the NHL’s top nine teams in scoring because they had the personnel to do so with players such as Modano, Jere Lehtinen, Bill Guerin, Brenden Morrow, Jason Arnott, Sergei Zubov, and later, Mike Ribeiro and Loui Eriksson. In the 1998-99 season, while coaching the IHL’s Houston Aeros, Tippett led his team to the Turner Cup and the Aeros scored a league-leading 307 goals — 22 more than any other team.

New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault laughed at the perceptions that sometimes exist about coaches due to the personnel and situations they are dealt. Vigneault believes most NHL coaches preach a very similar style, making adjustments when the personnel they have dictates such tweaks.

“I know that Dave Tippett is the same way as I am,” Vigneault said. “We don’t like to trade chances. You’ve got to be able to play at both ends.”
http://arizonasports.com/story/43825...-dave-tippett/

I'm really not advocating who the next coach should be, just thought I'd bring this in as Tippett gets dumped on because of his Arizona days.

I'm also not saying fire GG because I don't want anyone to ever lose their job that they are dedicated to. But I think a change of play style is needed.

I want to see an attack minded pressure style with players brought in who have speed (and can make plays at high speed) that utilizes an active defence. I want to see plays in the middle of the ice and rush chances.

When do you think GG will get fired? The day after the season is over?

Probably between April 9 and April 30. This time when a strong candidate pops up on the market they actually go after him.

HF has a new coach thread and the Rangers fans seem certain AV is gone.

That would be a great hire for the Flames.

I’ve heard Peters is a very likely contender. I forget by whom but I think it was Friedman.

I agree that some of the players need a coach that’s a bigger name than they are. There’s very few of those however. AV would be one.

Did anyone listen to the 31 thoughts podcast?

Go to 26:45. Friedman is saying Sutter will get looks and then Marek says that "Calgary is the obvious one".

Have a hard time believing to start a rebuild, they will pay AV $8 milllion not to do anything for organization. My bet is they try it out for the first year.
