Optimistic or pessimistic, is it fair to say we have arrived in "must win" territory? Flames absolutely need a burst to get back in the mix, starting now.
You are correct, sir. Ducks have two tough games coming up (at home to Washington and on the road against Nashville), if the Flames can win the next two and Ducks go pointless in the next two, all of a sudden, things are looking a little more upbeat.

If you get on a run and make it interesting, even better.

Three game road trip with the toughest game first, got a point. Now if they can get four more they may make things a little more tight coming home.

No moral victories in a season like this, but they played well and deserved the two points.
Well said. I think everyone is frustrated, I'm sure the owners upset, gm pissed, coach annoyed and players too. Naturally all the fans are disappointed, with the messages being sent by the gm and the coach that they fully expected and invested in a leap from last year.

What's done is done, and having to now battle back at the hardest juncture of the season is a hefty challenge. Having to make do without their MVP in Smith seems to be a huge issue, as the kid goalies are clearly not developed to be nhl starters with playoff pressure squarely on their shoulders.

I know I was hoping for a diamond in the rough, sports movie type uncovering of an allstar (kipper'esque) but it is a bit unfair to expect immediate success for these young goalies. At the end of the day, they won't be the biggest reason for the failure should the team fail to make it to the playoffs.

Flames gotta win the next 2. Zero excuses for not doing so. Them need to go on a 'win 4 of the next 5' type run.

I'm way less emotionally vested which has helped with the venting and overreaction. It is what it is. This is just another disappointing year for the flames. Thats not an exception but more the rule. To be fan of this team is to live with mediocrity and failure. They clearly aren't changing their overarching operation and strategy so I can only control my reaction and expectations. As a lifetime dolphin fan since the Marino era, I just can't change my team loyalty, regardless of the decades of incompetence. Enjoy the ride...

Hope the flames can get on a run to make things interesting till the end. Otherwise, I think it will be an extremely interesting offseason which could see some magnitude of change from the president down thru to the gm/coach and perhaps any player not nicknamed Johnny hockey.

I didn't watch last night's game , but I really think if we cp flames fanatics step back for a sec, we are damn lucky to have #13 to watch 82 games a year. Outside of mcdavid, there is no other player who brings you to the edge of your seat with pure skill on a nightly basis. Top 3 shiftiest and skilled players in the league. For a team that's been boring as hell this season, watching him regularly putting the puck in the net at one of the highest rates in the league, has been a real treat.

Anyways, I've made my peace with the 2017/2018 flames...

Go Flames go...

Do you even have a low?

It's eerily familiar to the media 300km north of Calgary who seem to think their team can do no wrong and it's just all bad luck.
So now your admiration is moving on to comparing to me media hacks in Edmonton?

Looking forward to when your admiration heads into other pedestal placing topics like;

- Your kids are stupid
- Your wife is ugly
- Your mom is a hooker

Re: the goalies - I don't blame Treliving here. Rittich, who they expected to ride, lost his confidence and now looks bad. Gillies who they didn't expect to have to play often looks lost. I like Rittich, but his meltdown forced Gillies in. At this point, you're probably better off just riding Rittich until he figures it out since he at least has has a run of success in the NHL.

Agreed - and at some point, your goalie prospects have to be backups and then starters for significant stretches. Plus, who was available at the deadline that would've moved the needle, and at what price? Of the goalies available from sellers, only Raanta was realistic I think, and the price would have been more than we'd have liked.

Quote:
The Kings were 10th in the Western Conference, 2 seeds away from a playoff spot, with only a month to go in the regular season. The offense was loaded with talent, but unable to find any kind of significant consistency. Until the final month and a half, when they proceeded to go 12-4-3 in their final 19 games as their offense finally caught fire and started scoring the goals they lacked earlier in the year. Securing the 8th and final playoff seed in their 81st and second to last game, a shoot-out loss to their archrival, San Jose Sharks.
It's possible. Oh yeah, they went on to win the Cup.

Players lacking confidence seems to be a pretty consistent trend for the Flames.

They had one of the best motivators in Sutter.

Yeah, you hold on to that.

I don't admire YOU, I admire the fact that you are able to constantly preach the same things - advanced stats, bad luck...despite the team just getting worse and worse. It takes a special amount of stuburness to do that. It's fascinating how you can be so ignorant to everything around you.

And yes, the comparison very much fits.

Let me fix that for you.

I admire your conviction towards being so angry, I could not gather up that much strength or power.

Possibly? Try likely.

Like I said, I am not angry.
I predicted this would happen months ago.

That will get them closer to Anaheim, but when 4 teams are fighting for one spot, and you sit last of those 4 teams, you need help on all fronts.

But it would be a decent start.

I thought they mentioned he was staying home on the trip. Glad to see him taking reps with the team. What a shot of positivity having a number one come back. Hope the team can get fired up now with Smitty in the crease.

First time Smith has practiced with the team since sustaining his lower body injury in Brooklyn. Was originally not scheduled to join the team on this trip. #Flames
