It does happen all the time . When they were up by only one they should have. Smith knew it.
I vividly remember the Flames were once down 4- 1 last year and came back to get the game to 4- with goals comimg less than 50 seconds apart. I'm pretty sure it was against the Predators. Rinne came out and Saros came in . Preds won it .

The highlight of the night, though. Beside Dad and I was a family. Two adults with their two small boys, probably 3 and 4 years old. Throughout the entire game, the boys would watch to see where Harvey The Hound would appear in the stands, point, wave and shout "Dog! Dog!"
Halfway through the third, Harvey appears in our section. He does his "pump up the crowd" thing, then looks around and sees the two little boys, who are shouting "Dog! DOG!" Harvey comes up the steps, and all the sudden they realize that this 'dog' is taller than their mom and dad...both shriek and bury their faces in the arms of the respective parents who were holding them.
Harvey was a champ, hung around for a bit funning for the boys and got them calmed down enough to 'pet' his arms with HUGE smiles on their faces.

You did miss some really good hockey though, Ball and Hrudey even called it the best game of the season after two periods, so I guess that's something. I would rather have missed out on the first 7 minutes of the third though...

This is a strawman. Consistency is difficult and guess what, sometimes it involves calling a TO and pulling your goalie.

Looking back I don’t think it was your intention (tone is hard in written format) but your posts care off as very arrogant and condescending which is why I responded.
Personally I want the Flames media members to be able to come on here and contribute without having to hide behind the screen name.
We used to have more of that on here but they left after taking abuse and just don’t want others to not want to contribute here either.

GG: Tough one. 2 goal lead in the third is a big deal
Q: committed to process but you've had an ugly week. Any change in the process to prep for chicago?
GG: Nope. we have to stay the course. dig in a bit deeper. Go to the dirty areas. Two weeks ago we were on a 7 game win streak. Lost to the top 2 teams in the league
Q: start to periods or game team gets scored on or penalties
GG: We were prepared. That's just the game to me. We race for a puck and it goes over the glass. I thought our PK was good.

Yes, I have read the internet and now know that 90 percent of coaching is calling timeouts. You only get one a game, and most coaches probably use them in about one of every 4-6 games, in my estimation. (Can’t find the stats because I can’t be bothered.)
So their utilization must be a focus. Way more important than whatever the coaches spend 60 hours a week on outside of timeout scenario planning
I would like to see Gully dedicate some practice time to timeouts instead of throwing a stick 20 rows deep

I was discussing the game I just watched...PGT and all
Flames played well except the goal tender who blew the game
I am 100% certain that is what happened tonight.
(getting a lecture about mediocrity from a Rider fan is rich lol)

To be fair this is him reading the room - it’s clearly a fragile group of guys right now. Two rough losses like these last two are not the time to come out and rip your guys in the media or talk about how bad they played.
It was one of the media members last week that said it but these guys take the losses hard. Look at Smith tonight, or Tkachuk and Frolik last night. It wears on these guys too.
Sutter was the king at this. Big losing streak and he would be calm and try to make sure the team didn’t get too down on themselves. Would talk about the process and doing the right things. Win a couple games and feel high and mighty and that was when he’d jump down the teams throat for mistakes they made.

The lapses in focus when they have the lead is the major concern to me. But overall they've carried play for the better part of the past two games.

Agree 100%...in fact i had 2 of them contact me PM some time ago after they left because of the nonsense they were reading about them.
Not my intention to scare anyone like that away, but i have no problem disagreeing with them and stating as much. Thats part of the business.
I miss the guys who could have added so much to this place but the damage was done.
Kent has every right to post what he likes using whatever methodology he likes, and I have every right to disagree with it.

What was wrong with those quotes? Should he throw Smith under the bus...I'm not sold on him as a coach but I'm not sure what you are looking for.
They shouldn't change anything from this game for Saturday other than getting Smith back to his usual self

Stories like this. Hey Nenshi maybe you can hire Harvey in a couple years to work at your shiny new publicly funded library.

Maybe put some blame on himself? How he could have done a better job preparing the team for the 3rd period. I might be in the minority but I would respect a leader who admits his weakness rather than the cocky attitude of "nope, won't change a thing".
