Sure but how can we truly ever know someone's motivation? You and others are pinning me to the cross on commenting about Jagr's motivations because its based on distant observation, and all i'm saying is that everything we talk about here on CP is based on observation at some distance - however close it may be to the source. Indeed even if Jagr himself told us about his motivations, only he would truly know what they really are - he might tell us what he thinks we want to hear. So in the end its all speculation at some level - not some is fruitful discussion and other is BS.

I'm sold. Get our RFAs signed, then offer Jagr whatever's left.
"A Jagr's a Jagr, but the mystery cap space could be anything! It could even be a Jagr!"
What's going to be available at the deadline that improves us more than a potential top line right winger? What's better deal will be offered than spending just cap space?

There is a pretty clear difference between speculating on hockey related matters vs a player's personal thoughts or motivations.
You said yourself that we can't know another person's motivations. I agree. So why bother speculating?
Conversely, we can have fairly detailed conversations about a player's skating ability, age, playing style, past production, etc. These are topics that invite discussion.
How are you not seeing the difference here?

You can't, that is entirely the point, so don't speculate on it.

It's not the act of speculation that's the issue -- it's what's being speculated upon.

Ask yourself two things:
1) "Is my speculation founded on anything apart from my own fertile imagination?"
2) "Does my baseless speculation contribute anything worthwhile to the current discussion?"
If not, then it is pointless to include in your posts.

Matheson and co. said Jagr doesn't want to be in Western Canada because he doesn't want to be in Edmonton. The Oiler fan tears will be delicious.
Foo was all but an Oiler and the Flames weren't on his short list according to the sycophants in the Edmonton media. Now Jagr doesn't want to be in Western Canada yet the Flames are rumoured to be closing in.

Best part is Chia trying to save face with: "We don't want him, he's too slow." As if.

.@NHLFlames & @68Jagr camp are still in talks, sounds like the #Flames wanna get Sam Bennett signed before they sign Jagr.
|
From the same guy
That sounds a little more realistic given that locking up Bennett is pretty important to the team. Still skeptical, but perhaps rumours of these 'talks' have some legs after all. Make it happen, Tree! The more Oiler butthurt the better.

What better way to convince Bennett to sign a reasonable contract than having an opportunity to play with Jagr.

Pretty much what we all are thinking. Sign Bennett, then look at bringing in someone like Jagr.

I could see both signings happen in quick succession, with Samwise's coming first of course. Will make for a kick ass day for Flames fans. That'd be a fun press conference to watch!

Assuming he wants to play here, I'm one of those people who believe that signing Jagr is dependent on how much it costs to re-sign Bennett, Kulak, and Wotherspoon.
If Bennett signs a reasonable bridge contract, there should be enough Cap Space left to sign Jaromir to a one year, low salary/generous bonus, contract.
I don't care which of the Top 3 lines he plays RW on.
I believe that he would improve the Flames offense and could well provide the younger players with valuable mentoring.
Also count me in as someone who only wants Iggy back on a one day retirement contract.

First the Flames sign Samwise, and then King Théoden!
And the Orcs in Mordor to the North can howl all night!

It's so obvious this guy is just going with the wind with whatever rumours he tweets. He'll piggyback on stuff already out there, then add fairly innocuous things to just play insider more.
Sounds like the Flames want to get Bennett signed? Yeah, people here have been speculating since the start of this thread, now he sweet it like it's something he's hearing.
What a bunch of BS. Think it was the same with the Spencer Foo signing, just went wherever the wind was blowing.

If Bennett signs for cheap (~2 mil bridge), I expect Jagr to sign. If they go long term with Bennett (so like 4 mil+), I see Iggy getting signed.
It all depends on the Bennett deal.

Honestly, if Iggy really wanted to play for Calgary, I am pretty sure he would have signed with us by now... That's just my opinion.
