I don't understand why they'd sign a UFA yet... Take a player in the expansion and then sign Engelland July 1 if he wants to be in Vegas..

Boomer mentioned that much earlier in the day as well. Not sure it is more than conjecture. (although my doubting it is likely wishful thinking).

Yeah feels like Boomer tweeted that as more speculation and then John Shannon picked up Boomers tweet.
Boomer followed up saying that they could sign him July 1 still and take a Flames player - so seems speculative.

On July 1, there are a lot of players talking to a lot of teams. If you can get a few wrapped up early, why not? If there wasn't anyone else available from the Flames that they wanted, why waste a pick and then have an asset you have to deal with that you never really wanted?
It's like if Safeway had a 2 for 1 sale on expired milk. Who cares if it's 2 for 1 if it's rotten?
