I know Ryan Miller has hinted at not wanting to play here, but he may not have a ton of suitors this summer. If we're going the vet goaltender route, he would be a solid two year contract I think.

Ryan Miller is a self righteous little ___ ___ who stinks like Canuck. Just watch any of his after hours segments with The Dope Scott Oake. I'll take Mason or Bernier over Miller any day of the week.

I feel confident Treliving and his pro scouts are working overtime and no stone will be left unturned in the search for a starting goaltender. I have no idea who it will be because there are so many trade scenarios and we don't know who's all available or the price required to acquire but I feel they will find someone that can get the job done next season.

It's actually not that bad if you look at it, especially if you include his work in the AHL.
It's pretty up and down. Definitely no real pattern that suggests he's the issue.

I don't know, Flames made the playoffs on average goal tending from Ramo and Hiller followed by one of the statistically worst seasons by a goal tending pair in recent memory. Then the inconsistent year from a new tandem.
It's obviously not ALL on Sigalet but I think it is more than fair to place a good bit of responsibility at his feet. I mean at the end of the day after all he is not the one playing the games. But I would contend that even Malarchuk could keep his goalies heads on straight with more success than Sigalet has. Honestly, I don't think I've seen goalies who have had great success elsewhere look so mentally fragile .
Even AHL, where are his goalies now? This isn't vitriol for the guy but a genuine concern he's a part of the problem

I still don't see any disadvantage in just letting the new goalie hire his own coach.
Goalies want to do well. I would imagine a goalie would take the hiring even more seriously than the team would.

It always seems to circle back around to Sigalet, but I still haven't seen anyone post any actual evidence as to why the shoddy goaltending we've had is his fault.
I have a hard time blaming the guy when every single goaltender he's had to work with in the Flames organization before 2016/17 is now playing in Europe. Well, except for Berra who will likely be back over there next season, and Dell who played 6 games in Abbotsford like 4 or 5 year ago. Seems more like a crappy goaltender problem than a crappy goaltender coach.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not a Sigalet apologist. If the guy is doing a bad job then by all means get rid of him and get someone better.

The main problem that the goalies have is that the Flames defense is massively overrated at playing actual defense and has been since 2004.
Hard to make a save when you're getting absolutely no help most of the time.
The Flames only had 3 NHL defensemen for most of this year until Stone arrived and a pile of #7's or worse. Hard to be successful when you have that.
The Flames need to address the defense by adding three guys either internally (allowing Andersson/Kylington to come up) or by free agency/trade. Re-signing Stone would help, but the Flames would still need one more guy.
If they can go into next season with 5 or 6 legitimate NHL defenders, maybe they won't need a goalie to play like Carey Price for the team to be successful.

I think once the Flames settled into Gulutzan's system the team defense improved. I would suggest watching game 2 and 3 again those losses are all in Elliott and no way that team should have lost game 3. They got horrendous goaltending

Get good goaltending, if a prospect pushes in a few years that's a fantastic problem to have, not one that should be purposely avoided
|
There aren't many long term options right now that aren't going to at least cost the team a significant return back. The flames have given up a lot of futures for a rebuilding team and with only 1 pick in the first 3 rounds I think we should be careful not to burn anymore on poor value netminders.
I think this team has shown the ability to win with average goaltending and I fully believe the long term answer is currently in the pipeline. The likelyhood of none of the goaltenders panning out seems unlikely to me. Gillies already has a NHL win under his belt and Riddich had a terrific rookie season in the AHL and Tyler Parsons appears to be an elite netminder in the making.

How can game 2 and 3 be all on Elliott? There were more issues than just him in both of those games. Does he deserve more blame than than other individual player? Surem but it was not all in him.
He struggled to start in game 2 but he battled and kept us in it as we drew even only to have bad penalties cost us. Game 3 yeah Elliott was bad, no doubt. But how often do we see goalies give up bad goals when the team in front of them stops playing? Not to mention the terrible officiating; there was the obvious high stick goal and when have we ever seen a lineman physically drag a player away from the opposition bench as he is throwing punches and not at least blow the whistle?

Not arguing about the playoffs, that was some of the worst goaltending I can recall from a starting goalie in a playoff series other than Fleury in the past.
If the Flames had average goaltending, they probably would be still playing right now.

It's the playoffs. You can't spot a team 2 bad goals at the start of the game. You can't do it and expect the unexpected to sweep in and win you the game. Look at the teams still around - Fleury has a rough game, he answers with a shutout.
Elliott was average in game 1, bad in game 2, worse in game 3, and deserved to get yanked in game 4.
I'm still blown away by those trying to create this overarching narrative that there are bigger problems with the Flames - there aren't. If they had received even average goaltending against the Ducks, that's at least a 7 game series and who knows who wins.
It's the playoffs - for a team to succeed, you need somewhere between great and superb goaltending.
I can't wait for July 2nd and the Flames have finally signed/traded for a new goalie so that we can finally move past these odd Elliott arguments. It's just time to move on.

Ya that's it. Kyllington will end the fire drill.

Over-rated for 13 years? Okay then.
And they don't need Care Price goaltending to be successful. They went on runs when both Johnson and Elliott played well.
Has the D been perfect? Definitely not. But lots of exaggeration in your post.

You unsurprisingly missed my point. I am simply saying it is not "ALL" his fault. Other people are to blame as well. I wasn't defending his performance.
