I think the deal they supposedly squelched last year was for more $'s and had us giving up significant assets.
As for the rumored deadline acquisition where KK was incommunicado, well yeah, you'd like to think we could have signed him for similar $'s. Plus we would have him for the playoffs.
Meanwhile two teams have gone out and gotten their goalies.
Maybe ours is still playing.

I'm sure Stars fans are excited but at the same time it's not out of the question Bishop may follow the same path as the other two veteran goaltenders that has sunk them over the past season. Niemi looked like a good signing at the time until his game fell off as he got into his 30's and Lehtonen has also got worse further into his 30's. If Bishop follows that trend the Stars are going to be a disaster.

No one? Treliving tried to get him but determined the asking price was too high at last years draft. Then when he tried once more at this years trade deadline I believe it was a combination of Waiting on Ken King and the fact that Bishop didn't feel like coming to Calgary.
Lets focus on what we can control...and that is absolutely nothing when it comes to the Flames except for buy tickets, watch on TV and crush brews!

I have no issue with the draft day trade block. Rumors of a 36-39M deal over 6 years was a lot but more importantly we don't know the acquisition cost. People claim the Tkachuk pick was involved (no way would I want that deal) others say Backs+ 2 2nds (ditto on that deal).
The deadline rumor is the one that really irks me. The price to acquire would have been cheap and re-signing him would have been easier. Most importantly the Flames likely avoid the sweep. The Flames have the Honda centre curse but remember Elliott also had a horrible career vs the Ducks where Bishop had owned them in his career

Yeah, I concur... there is a lot (too much) of risk in this deal.

His AAV came in cheaper than most thought it would, but that is still a 6 year term.
Really curious at this point what Treliving has up his sleeve at this time. Negotiating quietly with a team or two? Waiting for the playoffs to be over? Waiting for a team to blink before the expansion draft?
On the plus side, we as fans get to keep on speculating.

This feels like a huge miss for Treliving and co. That's a great AAV, and the term isn't terribly long for a goalie of Bishop's pedigree.
If it's true that Bishop simply didn't want to come here, then so be it. However, we don't know if that was the case, and now we're still sitting without a starting (or even backup) goalie with a decent contract.
I suspect that Treliving is going to look at a 2 year stopgap starter until Gillies or Parsons is ready. That means we will probably be frustrated at our goaltending situation for another 2 years.
I sure hope he knows what he's doing. His previous moves on this topic haven't filled me with confidence.

That's a solid deal for Dallas. Optics look bad with all these reports with meddling, but the Flames would've really benefited here

Going to be interesting to see the Stars next season, but with a young D that's another year older, Hitchcock coaching and now what I believe is an elite starting goalie they could easily bounce back to challenge for the Central title again.
As nice at would be to be proven right about Bishop, I hope he fails miserably and the Stars crash and burn in glorious fashion.

It has already been pointed out a few times that this rumour is probably not true. The timeline does not fit, and while the source is well connected within elite level hockey circles, he is neither part of the Flames nor Lightning organisations.

So according to Cap friendly both Lehtonen and Niemi are under contract next season both with some form of NTC. One would assume Bishop is the goalie protected but what happens if Vegas dosent pick one of their goalies? They'll have 3 goalies under contract with a combined hit of over 15M.
Has this been discussed? seems ridiculous.

Dallas isn't very good defensively, if they don't improve this offseason we'll get to see if Bishop is actually a good goalie or just a beneficiary of a solid Tampa defence.

Sure the timeline fits.
Yzerman has two deals on the table, Calgary and LA.
Calgary says they just need King to sign off on it.
LA says we gotta do it now or we are pulling offer.
Yzerman thinks back to the summer and how that deal with Calgary fell thru because of ownership waffling.
Yzerman says OK let's do it Lombardi.

In the rumoured 6x6, the 6 years is what scared most people (both term and dollar scared me). So, if the 6 years is the scary part, 6x5 is not much better. He's almost 31 and far from elite.
Be interesting to see how he does, with the smaller equipment this season. I'm glad it's Dallas taking the risk.

wow... 5m avv at 6 years?!
that's a great deal for Dallas... and the rights were acquired for a 4th round pick?
agreed, most Calgary fans would have been ecstatic at that for a 30 year old goalie...
makes the rumored blown deadline deal sting that much more....

Bishop's contract includes a full NMC, which also has a limited no-trade list in the final three-years of the deal.
