This looks a lot more even than 2 years ago. Ducks still a better team but that's mostly mentality I think.

No question, a win in that building would be a massive confidence builder for this team. I think if the Flames win on Saturday to earn a split, they'll end up winning the series. Ducks are still a superior team overall (particularly their special teams), but honestly there isn't that much separating these teams right now. When the Flames stick to their game plan, they can definitely compete with a team like the Ducks. We saw it for long stretches tonight in 1st and 2nd periods. Unfortunately, just when you think they're taking over the game and might actually pull off a win, they end up shooting themselves in the foot with stupid little mistakes and then the wheels fall off.
If they can somehow stay disciplined and continue to use their speed to their advantage like they did in the first half of tonight's game, they can certainly win in that godforsaken building. They just need to find it in themselves to do it for a full 60 minutes. If they go back to Calgary down 2-0, this thing will likely be over in 5 or less.

in a game where you need all the help you can get, this is pretty unforgivable, especially having brouwer out there on the 5 on 3 instead.

1 game into the Playoffs and that's a huge mistake..Hitch went home, can Darryl?

I knew not to eat crow on Gulutzan until after the post season. As far as I can tell, Elliot in the second half of the season did Gulutzan's job for him

Flames will never be good because they lost the first playoff game 3-2 with a much younger team than their opponent.
Also, to say Bennett will never be a good player after watching that game? idiot was being nice and I don't wanna get banned

And yet... the Mighty PLAN results in a FLAMES loss... when are you going to face it... this team does not have the talent to win anything.

lol wow... bro Sam is 20, Gaudreau had a better season than his Calder nomination rookie year that everyone gushed about and is in the first year of his attractive/affordable contract... blow it up?? We lost 3-2 in game one of a SEVEN game series. Get a grip, these posts are particularly unbearable and what is sad is that they probably hope deep down that some truth comes out of suggestions/predictions like this crap.
How did that work out for Backs/WhereruChris?? Well I know Backs is a Selke candidate and not in the KHl..
Give your head a shake.

We're a young team and young teams make mistakes. Again, two months ago 95% of this board was saying the season was over, myself included. We're in the playoffs now, enjoy it , **** happens. 3-2 game where we carried the play at times but a couple of mistakes and a total lack of discipline cost us. These are easy to correct mistakes.

When the Flames won their quarterfinal series against the Canucks two years ago, this was the lineup:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Colborne - Backlund - Bennett
Ferland - Stajan - Jones
Raymond - Jooris - Bollig
The first line was largely ineffective for much of round one. Backlund and Colborne were non-existent, Bennett scored a couple goals but not much else, and the fourth line barely played.
It was the Ferland - Stajan - Jones line which really dominated the Canucks in that first round, scoring a lot of goals while playing very physically. The Flames need guys to step up in their place.
Ferland equivalent: Ferland, duh. But he isn't being used properly by Gully and the coaching staff, IMO. He needs to be put out on the powerplay, and he needs to be put out more often in general.
Stajan equivalent: Again, this needs to be Stajan, but Stajan played way too much tonight and was useless. He has terrible linemates in Bouma and Brouwer, which helps.
Jones equivalent: This should be Brouwer, but Brouwer is a sinkhole on ice who can't do anything right now. A Jones replacement should be able to chip in a goal about every five games while throwing a bunch of hits and staying disciplined. Brouwer can't do that right now. Versteeg isn't big enough to do this, and Bouma also can't do anything. There's an obvious choice here, though, and it's Lazar. He isn't quite as tall as Jones but he's about the same weight and can score the odd goal. Is he as physical? IDK.
Hathaway needs to be brought up, also. He is infinitely more effective than Bouma. He has so much drive, which Lancer seems to have lost.
Here are the lines I want to see next game:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Versteeg
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Hamilton - Bennett - Hathaway
Ferland - Stajan - Lazar
Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Stone
Wideman - Engelland
Elliott

This feels like you have just been waiting eagerly for a loss just so you can spew this.
I'm not going to let the hate flow, because I don't know you and therefore can't hate you.
But your post is ridiculously stupid and over the top after 1 loss.

Don't waste your time on uneducated posters. The guy only believes in the Oilers model. Suck forever until you get a generational player. He doesn't understand how development of players work or how there are other models to win a cup.
He might as well go up north and throw on some orange.
