They're only 1 point out, but STL has one helluva soft schedule with 1 game in hand. The Kings also are 3-5-2 in their last 10, with 3 of those losses on home ice. This is nowhere even remotely close to the kind of pace they need to be playing at to ensure themselves a postseason spot. The Kings would have to turn things crazily around in the last 20 or so and absolutely nothing points to that happening. Replacing King with Jarome may very well provide them offence, but I doubt it would be enough.
The Flames are also really picking up lately, arguably the hottest team in the entire NHL right now with their 5 game win streak. And they play the Kings 3 more times.

No one has seen Kopitar this year - bit of a mystery where he went...

I'm just happy Iginla didn't go to the Oilers. It is a little sad though I will be cheering against him for the rest of the season and there is a good chance LA will miss the playoffs. That said if the Kings do sneak into the playoffs the West is wide open and they have as good a chance as anyone. Didn't they win the cup in 2012 after barely making the playoffs as the 8th seed?
Also, so if LA misses the playoffs or Jarome doesn't re-sign the Avs get nothing? I didn't know you were allowed to trade a player for nothing! You'd think the Avs could have got a 7th rounder or a bag of pucks or anything.

Duhatschek just explained the story.
When he was 10 years old, the only jersey Jarome had was an Oilers #88 with his name on it. His kids told him to take #88 with LA as a result.

For everyone that thinks this was a bad decision on Iggy's part, just remember a team needs to want to trade for you. Iggy didn't call all the shots in where he was going was my point.
Just my nickels worth...

Gonna be the best #88 by the end of the year. Move over Burns and Kaner.

I don't think it is a bad decision to go to LA at all. It just goes to show you his options were very limited, as in only the Kings, for teams in hunt for playoffs.

As a Calgarian, just have to love the #88. Thanks for the nod there Iggy.
Enough of the Forever A Flame thing. When Iggy retires, 12 goes in the rafters of the Dome forever.

I don't think so.

Why not both? Kings knock the blues out, Flames make the playoffs and then deal with it afterwards.

I dont think anyone is looking forward to playing the Kings in the playoffs. A team that knows how to win even when being way down in a series, who will beat you black and blue throughout. And they may have an extremely well rested Quick as well.

STL has a very good chance at making it though. 2 games against WPG, 4 against COL, 3 against ARZ, 1 against CAR. Pretty easy schedule if you ask me though teams always tend to play spoiler.

I have zero stats to back this up but I feel like the lottery teams always end up being decent down the stretch. Zero pressure and young guys looking to make an impression for next year.

Yeah I know what you mean. We have first hand experience of that here in Calgary. Playing well when games no longer matter. We'll see though, games haven't mattered for ARZ or COL majority of the year. I mean, maybe the Avs do Jarome another favour and defeat STL in all 4 games..
