Wasn't Eaves just traded for a 2nd that could become a 1st? Iginla has a similar amount of points this season on a far worse offensive team. Based on this you'd think the Avs would be looking for at least a 2nd.

Nik Backstrom was traded for a 6th and David Jones.
A 6th + Wideman seems like it would do it.
BTW, Backstrom has a 1.78 GAA in SM-Liiga this year in 14 GP. Good for him.

Eaves also only cost 1 million and had over double the amount of goals.

Eaves also reportedly had 10-12 teams interested in him. Friedman said yesterday it was pretty quiet on both Doan and Iginla, their prices might be lower.
A major reason Eaves was so desirable was that he had a $1 mil cap hit, which a lot of teams can easily fit into their available cap space.
A guy like Iginla requires much more salary cap gymnastics.

Eaves = Less cap hit, a little bit younger, more teams interested. Iginla will likely only have a handful of teams interested at most, plus he's been public about wanting out. Nobody is going to overpay for him, he will be had on the cheap...wherever he ends up. But yes the Avs are a terrible team. Landeskog has like only 5 more points (be it less games played) than Iginla so that should put in perspective how bad that team really is. Iginla is just about done, no doubt, but I think his numbers would be a bit better had he been on a different team this season.

Eaves has 13 more goals, 19 more points - definitely not similar numbers - he has a caphit 4.5 mill less and is 7 years younger. A 4th for Iggy seems about right.

My bad I was mistakenly looking at Eaves stats from last season where he had 17 points in 54 games. He is having a career year this season.
That said Iginla would easily have more points if he wasn't on the worst team in the league.

If they trade for Iggy and make the dollars work, I suspect he might undeservedly become a CP whipping boy, or at least a big source of arguments. You'd have the present "no, way, he's finished" crowd eagerly anticipating every mistake (like with Wideman), you'd have the "he will turn it on here" posters who are disappointed that he's not vintage Iggy, you will have the posters who defend everything he does.

Don't over analyze it - if Iggy came back it would be in a limited role with sheltered minutes and would be awesome.

So more yes respondent than no huh.
Wow are we sentimental or what.
Should we bring back Darryl to? Conny and Gelly are here they can come out of retirement....Sarich still lives here , Warrener is on the fan , ahhhh....I have great memories of Jarome and always perk up when I hear a name from that 04 roster .
We should just keep the memories and not wish for more. Watching Iggy turn into a soft perimeter player or 1 trick pony as Wilson once called him doesn't make me want him back .
Now if we were talking about Jagr I'd be singing a different tune. 45 and still amazing IMO...

If Darryl becomes available after this season, yes, we should bring him back.

What a terrible, over-dramatic post.
You can say you think it's a bad idea without exaggerating and likening it to bringing back retired players.
Iginla in a limited bottom six role / power play specialist can still be effective and an upgrade.

You've got that one backwards.
The trade was Jones for Backstrom and a 6th.

after thinking about it all afternoon, I want the Flames to trade for both Doan and Iginla (Wideman, Chaisson, possibly Bouma out for salaries, 2nd round picks and any or all of Poirier, Klimchuk, Shinkaruk out).
I then want the Flames to have grumpy old wingers on either side of Bennett on the third line.

Alright, looking at the teams in a playoff spot that have the space to add him without sending a contract back:
East:

I think Jarome will want to avoid the East if possible. Look at the state of that conference.
Columbus and NYR are surer playoff bets, but with Pittsburgh AND Washington in the same division I think Iginla looks to the West for this one, as it can be a complete crapshoot after the first round.
Those are the only sure bets too - the other teams are locked tooth and nail in a points battle. Florida dropping one to us in regulation hurt them very badly, but they're still in it, which is why I think Jagr stays put unless they drop both their next games badly.
West:

Wild are a sure bet, but they seem poised for an upset. From the Calgary Flames. Also, my salary cap math might be wrong with this one. It would be pretty soul crushing to go to them and get bounced by us quickly. Let's rule MIN out for now...
Edmonton might make sense for a lot of reasons. Hometown. Familiarity with Chiarelli and Looch. McJesus. Top 3 in division. Then again, he spent most of his career as a Flame. And be honest - is this a team that can beat another Western powerhouse in a 7-game series?
Nashville is still tenuously hanging in there right with us, but not trending as well.
Even throwing out all the nostalgic stuff, Calgary could be a reasonable fit. Trending nicely in all the right areas (goaltending is coming back, special teams very good, 5v5 play improving, scoring contributions up and down the lineup), plus the recent defencemen acquisitions and win-streak. But the salary would have to work for us as we're stuffed full atm.

Lol - I can guess what camp you are in.
I doubt any are expecting vintage Iginla. Low expectations are more the norm, and there's good reasons to think he won't disappoint.

Yes, but it's a completely different situation than 4 years ago.
It's unlikely that the top tier teams will be lining up to acquire him. He'll likely have to settle for a mid-range or bubble team that's willing to take him on in a third or fourth line role to bring veteran leadership.
