There is really nothing to see there. No GM is going to negotiate before the expansion draft knowing the rules. Even at that, somebody internally would have to leak there was a handshake agreement. UFA's re-up with their current teams all the time so history says that will happen. If Joe Thornton re-signs with the Sharks (which he almost certainly will) after the expansion draft the NHL cannot just throw out accusations and levy a penalty on them.
I'd expect to see Gio-Hamilton, Brodie-Stone, Bartkowski-Engelland based on their desire to have a left shooting and right shooting d-man on each pairing.
If they ease him in, it will be with Bartkowski on the third pairing.
Regardless, hopefully this all means the end of Dennis Wideman on this team.
Once again Arizona is proving that its a bad idea to hire a GM who's nothing better then an overglorified HF.com member.
Treliving owned him today.
I disagree. Phoenix was never going to re-sign him so they got an asset now, a couple weeks before the deadline. Stone wasn't playing well this year so he's just not worth much more than a 3rd.

Their three highest cap hits are Bolland, Pronger and Datsyuk. None of whom will ever play another game. They are paying Ribeiro and Vermette not to play for them and will be for years. And now they are paying half on Stone.
And the cherry on top of it all is that they are bankrolled by the Glendale taxpayers and NHL revenue sharing.
The organization is a joke.

The Flames got a player for magic beans. How it turns out is yet to be determined, but that was a stealth move by Treliving (who has some history with said player).

The Flames should hold a Wideman exorcism party and invite every linesman in the league to a practice where Wideman has to skate blindfolded with noise cancelling headphones and the linesmend each get a chance to body slam him.
After that they can put him on LTIR and we never have to see him again. Plus maybe officials will call penalties equally both ways after such follies.
Hopefully Stone can be the complement to Brodie that Wideman wasn't. Low risk to part with a 3rd in what looks to be a weak draft.

I have a feeling that Chayka had hundreds of charts, graphs, metrics and data tables posted around his office to gauge the value of Michael Stone's value, but then ended up getting basically what the market said he was going to get.
Chayka should be fired, or at least demoted. Way too green and likely in over his head.
Hopefully this means we see Tony D coming up soon.

Let's get DeAngelo or Wood in there now.
Quote:
DeAngelo has as many points as Stone this year in 25 fewer games. Also beats him goals, 3 to 1.
Chayka = not smart?
Quote:
It's John Chayka, I bet he got a fantastic return from Calgary.
Quote:
Awful return. Hope this isn't Chyaka apologizing for offending Burke. smh
Quote:
Roman Polak got 2 2nds last season
Quote:
Yep. Feel like John Boy got pantsed on this one.
Quote:
I feel like the other GMs will smell blood in the water after this one. Weakness has been revealed to be taken advantage of.
Brad... who?
Quote:
Seemed to be Calgary was the one team to step up with an offer. Treveling knows Stone well and he's going back to where he played junior.
Weitz weighs in

Flames pick up Stone from Arizona.
Another terrible D man to add their bottom 4.
A Brexit of our own?
Quote:
Stone is having a bad year on a terrible team. Adding him to the Flames pushes ****ing England out makes them a better team and is kind of annoying.
...and for the rest.
Quote:
Stones only good year was carried by OEL
Quote:
I do find it hard to believe though that other teams hadn't tabled better offers. (Leafs for example)
Quote:
Stone has had a really bad year , as have the Coyotes in general. Selling low in the desert.

This is pretty much what Burrows will get minus the conditional pick.

I read that from the bottom up (as I often do) and for a few moments thought they were saying mark stone got traded for a 3rd and 5th.
Almost had a heart attack.
Quote:
Michael Stone for a 3rd rounder? that's really cheap but I guess it's because he'll get taken by Las Vegas?
hahahaha the one year that we might be selling and guys like Michael Stone are only worth a 3rd rounder
Canucks franchise is such a joke
Quote:
Stone isn't a good defenceman at all.
Quote:
That's a good return for Arizona.
Quote:
Michael Stone is worth a 2nd in a good draft any year except the one leading up to the expansion draft
Meanwhile Jim Benning doesn't know whether we are sellers because "5 pts out of playoffs"
Someone asked, so... (sorry Gaskal )
