I would like to see Dougie and Brodie paired together for an extended stretch. That should be our top pair for the next 4+ years. Dougie is easily our best offensive Dman and he should get more minutes.
Gio is easily better than Hamilton offensively and that's no slight to Hamilton. Gio is a top 5-10 offensive d man in the NHL.
Gio has outscored Hamilton in each of the last 4 seasons.

I will say that if Hamilton started last season on the first line PP he would have led the Flames in defensemen scoring easily. I think Hamilton is better on the power play but right now Gio is better offensively 5 on 5 because he's better at pinching.
i dont see how thats true at all. Hamilton cant walk the blue line like giordano can.

Hamilton has a heavier shot and he's more gifted physically. Gio is great but when he was 23 he was in the AHL and Hamilton already has a back to back 40+ point seasons in the NHL. It's only a matter of time until Hamilton assumes the role of leading scorer from the blue line.

Somebody will give the " but he's only 23" bull####.
What are you saying? He's not 23?
Was Gio even a full time NHL player at 23? I think that's the point folks are making when they quote Dougie's age, look what he's already accomplishing years ahead of his prime as a D-man.

true hamilton might have a better shot but just because a player is better than another player at a certain age doesnt mean they will overtake them. If that was the case every nhl dman under the age of 25 would project to be better than giordano since they were better at the same age.

Well that's great and all but the comment wasn't about who will be better in the future, it was about now and as of right now Gio is better offensively.

True but development is not linear. Is Ekblad going to be exponentially better than Almost any other defenseman because he was better at 18?

I'm saying he's paid 5+ million per year. To not put high expectations on a player with that salary is absurd.
