I'm not too sure that I want Ferland fighting Lucic but you're right he does have that rare one punch knockout kind of power

Good point.
The more that slow boat of a player Lucic is struggling on the ice to keep up the better.

Hope the Flames crush the Grease tonight. I think it'll be a tight game. Johnny is going to be playing catchup

I honestly can't imagine how the Oilers can Oil this up anymore than they already have.
From an hour long opening ceremony for their new arena to naming Gretz "One True King of the Andals" and so on and so forth.
Everything about this stupid organization is somehow both completely obnoxious, gaudy and in your face and at the same time second rate and embarrassingly desperate for acknowledgement and acceptance.

Each pairing tonight has a guy who can take care of physical business (Engelland, Grossman, Gio). Giordano being the least able. In context of the home opener and arena debut, with idiots like Lucic and Kassian on the ice for half the game, it'll be nice to know there should be at least some kind of muscle on the ice.
I'm not a fan of it, but perhaps that goes into the reasoning.
Edit: Ferland, Brouwer, and Chiasson also on different lines. Really, it's only when the top line and the top D pair are on the ice together that there is not much muscle. AKA, the one time that muscle would be nice.

IMO Ferland takes too many punches waiting to get in his KO punch. It may not work with NHL enforcers but yeah, it would be nice to see him get one off on Lucic.

I'd rather no one fight Lucic. I'd rather he just be irrelevant all night, other than maybe taking a dumb penalty trying to be a tough guy.
Lucic is dumb, I want that to be the story.

That's why I don't want Ferland dropping the mitts with Lucic, Ferland is one of those scrappers that's willing to eat three to land one. Three from Lucic could be real bad news for the kid though.

The flames just need to use their speed against lugnuts like Lucic and Maroon and the rest of their slugs, and play well positionally against Connor mc1dimensional

I don't want Ferland fighting - I'm still leery of his concussion problems.
I have no issue with Engelland taking Lucic off for 5 though.

Wouldn't that be a 3 to 5 in 82 chance? It's best not to gamble if you're bad at math.

You are bang on the money. But...
Can you imagine the filth going home tonight having seen the flames ruin the opening of the new barn and their $6m mega-enforcer laid out by Ferland.

I'm betting that the Edmonton game plan is to goon it up tonight, they have enough idiots in their lineup to do that.

It would be better if we just hammered their players all night and have Lucic do nothing as usual. Since apparently there's some BS narrative about how Lucic prevents things from happening to his teammates (he doesn't) it would be fantastic to burst that bubble on night one.
Then the seven year contract will sink in.

They had this during the World Cup and it was pretty sweet to watch ref cam, overhead views, and other angles on the fly. Maybe one of the perks of playing in a brand new NHL arena?

I have heard that there will also be an 80s cam; shot in 4:3 and with a special Oilers VHS filter, it will be just like old times as gretz and mess twirl it around the ice.
Of special note, there will be a fawning cam; it will be a first person perspective on just how great McDavid really is. Please be careful using this camera as it looks almost exactly like the original sportsnet tv feed and tsn sportscentre coverage.
The MacTavish Cam will add a special filter; no matter what happens on the ice, Oilers and Sportsnet will be able to make the play look visually better.
The beer goggles app can be downloaded now prior to buying beers at the new rink; it makes a 16 oz beer look exactly like a 20 oz beer.
Finally, there will be a Rexall App, where you can shoot a video and overlay a jersey toss just like at Rexall. Special for early downloaders will be your choice of jersey numbers, including the limited edition 99 Gretzky Orange.
