Shaw 150 MBPS deal- $80 (Telus rumoured to match) [Split from Shaw TV]
Myself and the fiancé have been considering switching to a new bundle deal from our current grandfathered plan and we were wondering if Shaw's offer would be worth it.
Current Monthly Services:
- Basic Cable
- HD Plus Package
- High Speed Internet
- Home Phone Basic
= $161.70
Shaw's Offer:
- Internet 150
- Popular TV
- Personal Home Phone
= $141.95, 24 month contract
It looks pretty good, but has anyone got any better deals? We don't really watch TV aside from Sports, News and lifestyle channels, High Speed Internet is a must and home phone as well.
Edit: How's Telus? We've also been considering them as well if it's cheaper for a similar package but have never been with them before.

Depends on if your house is in a fibre area. Telus couldn't offer me more than 50mb as they don't have fibre rolled out in my area.

They won't be cheaper. We were paying $145 for roughly the same tv and 25Mb internet. I don't think there's much that will touch this plan, and I was pretty staunchly against Shaw before

Basically, no. Speed tests on phones are terrible. On my asus zenfone 2 i got 78 down 16 up, and a test with my laptop in the same spot on wireless 5.0 (same one my phone was on) was 178 down 16 up. Phones are bad for testing network speed, not sure why. It's consistent among lots of people tho. Not like anything mobile is going to take advantage of 178 over 80 really....

I've got the same package as hockey.modern, I was wondering how Popular TV compares to HD Plus. I tried to figure it out, but you get wierd things like TSN2 showing HD, but all the other TSN's showing SD. Are the packages very close? Wondering what I would lose.

When I was talking to them the other day, they emailed the lineup of channels that came with "Popular TV". It pretty much looks like the exact same.

I get History 2 on HD Plus; Popular TV would also give you Bravo and Comedy.

Just checked my speeds and was getting 60 down in wired connection. Chatted with Shaw and they asked me to power cycle and still it was only 60. Then I unplugged my computer from the router and re plugged it in and got 170. Never had that problem before.
Anyways, just want to say people should be checking their speeds periodically. I think I have been on 60 for a few days at least before I caught it. Still don't know if it was me or Shaw, so I'll watch closely

I assume that old computer has a 10/100 network card which is causing the speed to peak. You could switch that out if the extra speed was important.

What he said. This will do you just fine...they have both PCI Express and PCI versions of the card.

On my Nexus 5x.

Get about the same speeds on LAN.
I'm happy.

Respectfully, I have no clue what you just said. And wouldn't know how to tell.
It's basically my kids homework computer so it's not a big deal.

Just an older network card 10 mega bit per second / 100 Mbps it was a standard before gigabit or 1000mbps cards. Never an issue in the past as most residential internet never passed the 100mbps so it didn't top out.
