They cannot officially positively identify the body until an autopsy has been performed.
Even if they are 100% sure it's her no question when they find her, they still have to go through the process of an autopsy and have the ME identify her.

Actually they're insisting that all 3 - Colin, Sara, and Taliyah, all knew him. It'd make sense for Colin to know him in this scenario.

It doesn't necessarily mean it's mutilated beyond identification, if that's what you're thinking. They can cancel the alert, but will still use "believe to be" verbiage.

Terribly tragic. Words can't do that justice.
Very interesting is the disconnect that her Dad says doesn't know the suspect, police say he does and have put in a restriction he not contact the Dad.
Also in the press conference, the police left the possibility slightly open that through the investigation there is a possibility of additional arrests.
May be nothing, but it seems to leave open a slight possibility of the Dad being involved.

Yeah, I have always been against the death penalty, but tonight I am much more open to exceptions being made. I'm bracing myself for the motive to be something completely stupid like a debt of few hundred dollars.

I'm assuming that maybe the father doesn't know the suspect by that name. Maybe the cops asked him if he knew Edward Downey but he knows him by an alias.
Downey/Simmonds seems to be a large "family" from Nova Scotia and Marsman seems to be from Nova Scotia and is connected to some of them.

I'm incredibly saddened and angry by this news. I can't even imagine the pain felt by those close to this situation.
Is this another shining example of the failure of our justice system to protect the truly innocent? I guess we will find out.

It takes a special kind of POS to be 46 years old and do something like that to a kid. Look how sweet she is. Just...how??
#### rehab and rehabilitation. A guy with his rap sheet should have never been allowed out. I hope this guy gets what's coming to him behind bars.
Heartbreaking day for the family, the police who worked so incredibly hard for a good ending, and for the city in general.
