He's as close to a sure thing hire to turn around a team as there has ever been in the NHL.

Ask Craig Button why he dragged his feet hiring Darryl Sutter and you might find your answer....

Ken King hired Darryl Sutter. At that point Button was just kept on to let Darryl ease himself into the organization before taking over both duties the next season.

Interesting option. I'd consider him over Boudreau actually.

That's unfair to Darryl. Look at the guys he's developed into damn good players in L.A. - Muzzin, Toffoli, Voynov, Martinez, Pearson. He also came into Calgary at a time when we were near the bottom and he built us up. And I didn't look into it but I feel like he did the same thing in is stint in San Jose but I might be wrong. Even in net, while he's worked his established starters, he's definitely given young backups an opportunity to play in crucial games, whether it was his trading for 3rd stringer Kipper and rolling with him, or the opportunities Bernier got, or last year in one of the most crucial games of the Kings' season he still played Martin Jones.

This is from Yost's twitter from a few days ago:
I hope that the Flames are merely talking to Carlyle as a favour to him and not seriously considering him as some of the other threads have suggested.

I wouldn't mind Paul MacLean out of this list at all, those Senators teams coached by him was fun to watch as well. I'd rather him then Crawford, Wilson or Carlyle

Wonder if Carlyle is who the Flames are after and were worried that the Ducks may have interest in bringing Carlyle back to Anaheim. So Bob's firing coincides with Boudreau being let go, but Boudreau isn't the guy they're after.

But can we convince Bev to wear a walrus stache?

Is it just me, or does it seem Anaheim has not been reported to be involved in coaching discussions as much as Calgary, Minnesota or Ottawa? That kind of leads me to believe that they might be keeping MacLean to themselves, although he would be nice to get as well.

There's one lady who is always behind the Flames bench during home games. We here on CP have dubbed her Bev, although her real name has been discovered.
It was a joke aimed at the fact McLean had a doppelganger behind the Sens home bench during his tenure in OTT.

I always thought of her as a Deb - and her husband as a Randy.

If Boudreau is hired, at least Bev can match the red face when the tensity rises.

I would imagine Paul MacLean is the guy who will take over for Anaheim.

I'm not the least bit worried about this.
Treliving came out and said they need to possess the puck more. So I can't see him hiring a coach that has lower possession metrics than Hartley unless they have a very different book on why those numbers were low.

I thought that at first too - but if that was the case you would think they would have just waited a couple days and announced it all at once.
Then I realized they have Dallas Eakins as their farm team coach - and the same tweet that said Burke loves Eakins also said that Bob Murray loves Eakins.
So maybe they actually want Eakins as coach - and the reason it hasn't been announced yet is because Eakins is still coaching the San Diego Gulls in the AHL playoffs.
I could see them wanting to keep Paul Maclean as a veteran associate coach to work with Eakins but question if he is the guy for head coach.
One thing for sure is that the Ducks management made sure they had a pretty good group of coaches in the organization last year.

I don't want Eakins, but I bet that he Dubnyks his next job and is pretty successful.
