If Boudreau is hired I think this move was made because the Flames saw a coach they wanted and moved proactively to get him. Bob did a lot of good here when the expectations were low. In 2013 we all knew the team was done. Kipper rite meant rumors, Iggy not talking about staying and a short season for a new coach. The team fell apart and the rebuild began. 2014 the team was expected to be awful but Bob got them playing an entertaining style and they were competitive. Still got the team the highest pick in history but it was a feel good season. Last year was a blast from start to finish as the team continued on from the good efforts of 2014. This year was a brutal season and the team regressed the same 20pts they jumped the year before.
I wasn't calling for Bob's head but as the organization hopes to transition out of the rebuilding phase this appears to be the next step.

I'd bet heavily against that staying the case. Maybe they want Gelinas for some other role in the organization... player development like he had in Nashville maybe.

So, you are blaming Treliving for having "1 full year" to get a starting goalie - when he already had goalies that got them to the playoffs the year before, to get a first line RW - when he already had a RW that had huge success with Monahan and Gaudreau - and for failing to purchase a second line - when we are still an organization at the start of a rebuild. Sam Bennett is one of those pieces.
The problem I would suggest, is that our unexpected playoff run in 2015 left you with inflated expectations.
|
Agreeing with most of your post but he did buy a 2nd line RW to go with re-signed Backlund.
Until the first games were played we ( me anyway) thought that this was going to be the Flames big year. Had the big new additions to to team that won a playoff round. Had Hudler/Russell/Jones as rentals (players we couldn't afford past this year) What could go wrong?

22nd in the league, not good.
But much better than our last place PK, although our net minding can shoulder a portion of that.

Yes sir they did. I guess you would know the situation better then Burke, Treiliving, Conroy, Pascal. Right?
So glad this move took place. Very impressed with the management's proactive moves.

That's one of my off season goals achieved. My next goal is for the Flames to hire a new head coach. Am I doing it right?

Yah, it could have been clear to everyone that Gelinas wasn't the best man to be special teams coach except for Hartley. If Hartley was the guy who insisted Gelinas take on that role, the failure would be on Hartley. As a boss, you have to recognize organizational strengths/weaknesses and set your staff up for success.

Our pp only started to get better when Wideman was forceably removed from the bench and Hamilton got pp time. It was noticeably better almost instantly. Despite what Ricardow thinks pass the puck to Wideman while he stood still and then shot the puck wide was not better than Hamiltons dynamic play on the back end of our pp. People can hang this on Gelinas all they want but Hartley was in charge, and did not force a change. It is 100% on him imo.

Good on harm firing him early instead of too late and allowing him to find another job with another team. I've always hated when teams fire a coach too late and other teams already have found their coach.

CGY decision to terminate Hartley had less to do with who's available and more to do with management believing it's time for a new voice.

Hartley had better players this year than last and turned in a regressive season of 20 points in the standings. Goaltending was strong last year. How can Treliving be expected to predict that all three goalies who played well one year would come out completely flat the next?
Treliving has added Hamilton, Frolik, Bennett, Andersson, Kylington, Shinkaruk, Jokipaka, Nakladal, Pribyl... looks like a pretty good list to me. The team has gotten younger and has higher upside.

Head coach is ultimately responsible for overseeing the entire coaching strategy, especially the coaches under him.

With a somewhat unexpected change in Cgy, it seems more likely Utica coach, Travis Green is going to land one of the NHL jobs.

Do not want to give the Canucks compensation. Not even a 7th rounder, regardless of how highly touted and capable he is.
