Wideman + 6th overall for 4th overall. Write it up, lets get er done.
I've tossed this idea out to 2 buddies who are hardcore Oilers fans and both have said they would make the deal. Not overly relevant but interesting as I think the 2 spots in the draft mean much more to Flames fans than Oiler fans this year.

In 2002 Kekäläinen joined the St. Louis Blues as Assistant GM and Director of Amateur Scouting.

In 2010 after being passed over for the Blues GM job, Kekäläinen returned to the Finnish Elite League to take the GM job with Jokerit.

While with Jokerit, Kekäläinen had an unwritten escape clause with ownership that permitted him to leave if he was offered a GM job in the NHL. That opportunity came on February 13, 2013, when after Scott Howson was fired the previous day, president John Davidson, under whom Kekäläinen had worked while with the Blues, hired Kekäläinen to be the new GM of the Blue Jackets.
Blues, Blue Jackets, whatever

Not like the Blues have a history of drafting Finns either.

no worries, and with your comment about the Blues not drafting a lot of Finnish players either is totally bang on.

I don't care where the GM or player is from, nobody is passing on Puljujärvi unless there's something exceptionally stupid offered in trade.

There is going to be little drama in this draft until pick 4 as the top 3 are pretty well cemented here as it's going to go exactly according to the rankings with Matthews followed by the Finns.

Yeah, I agree. I think if Toronto didn't win the lotto, and another team with better center prospects won, then perhaps there would be way more interesting debates centered around Laine vs Mathews. I don't see how Toronto passes on what looks to be an elite 2-way center to solidify themselves for the next decade.

Fireworks kick off at 4 though!

Brown is a pretty intriguing guy to me. Let's face it, if guys like Ryan Getzlaf and Jeff Carter were drafted at 19 instead of 17, they're both going in the top 5 of their draft. But there was also Hugh Jessiman who went really high and never did much.

Although looking back at the 2003 draft the thing to consider is that it was a double cohort...so Jessiman was an early 84 birthday going against guys who were a full year younger than him who were 85 birthdays ( in the draft class not in college). In this draft Brown is the same age as all the other guys, and he is a 98 birthday.

I haven't watched him, so I really can't comment on how he plays. But by studying past drafts, I can't find too many guys in the CHL with that kind of size who put up scoring numbers as 17 year olds. It seems to me that a lot of these bigger guys have played in other leagues. In terms of top 5 guys it's hard to find players outside of Joe Thornton, Lecavalier and Eric Lindros who were 6'-4 or bigger forwards who were drafted in the top 3. There are guys like Bonsignor and Chad Kilger taken in the 4-6 range if you go way back who scored well in Junior but didn't in the pro's. But that's a different era of hockey going back that far.

I'd be interested to hear more about Brown from anyone who's actually watched him a fair bit.

At this point I don't know enough to say draft him at this spot...but the where he plays, and how his stats look to trend, it wouldn't seem like a crazy reach to take him this high either. The upside could very well be there.

Big, playmaking centre who has excellent vision and passing. Protects the puck well with his size and reach.

That site has nice 4-5 min video highlights of the U18s. I highly recommend watching a few of the USA highlights to get an idea of what Brown looks like. Brown is #27, Keller is #19, Bellows is #22.

The Oilers should get more than a harmonica for 4th OA but then again maybe that's what they need. McLellan can play some 12 Bar Blues Boogie during practice.

The flames management might just be saying they have a clear top 6 because they don't want to seem desperate to move up. If they tell everyone there's a ledge at 5 teams will try to get more out of them in order to move up.

For a split second I thought the draft was today at 4:00 and this two month debate nightmare was coming to an end

not sure why oilers fans think this...

Calgary gave up a 1st (13) and 2 seconds to seconds to secure Hamilton? Plus Hamonic's contract is a gift...?

4OA for Hamonic straight up seems pretty fair...at most maybe another late round pick tosses in...

Pretty solid choices, either Dubois, Tkachuk, Nylander or a nice Dman in Juolevi are going to be there at 6.

Can't get much better than that for where the Flames pick, so I don't think the brass are using mind game shenanigans for this situation.

Flames missed out on an Olli back in 2012. Maybe this is the hockey universe's way of giving them a second chance.

(obviously kidding)
