So if we had 3 in 2014 instead of 4, but still drafted Bennett, all would be good?

Yes, goaltending, however even I can't blame the whole thing on the goalies (god I hate Hiller). I think it would be pretty awesome to be heading into the 2018-19 season with
Brodie-Hamilton
Anderson/Kylington-Juolevi/Chychrun
As our top-four on defense. I remember a quote about one of the years the Devils won the cup, the opposition coach saying something like "every time I looked up Niedermayer or Rafalski was skating the puck out of their zone."
Glad VAN and EDM aren't picking top-3, but I'm not really worried or upset about being 6th.
|
Sweet ,so we are paying Gio almost 7 mil (for 4 more years) to be a #5 in your situation?

Silly concerns, he's no dummy and has a well rounded 200 ft game, no doubt he's a shoot first player but he may have the best shot in the draft. Zero chance he lasts to the 20's IMO.
He won't go 6th but if the Flames trade a few spots I think it'll be for him.

They deviated from the BPA to go with an organisational need. You can't rule out them doing it again.

There is so much wrong with this post.

Matthew Tkachuk would be ideal at 6. A power forward would be a good addition to the team. Heard he has a really high compete level as well. A good pairing with Bennett maybe?
Other than that, best player available.

Saying he's lacks hockey sense doesn't mean I think he's a dumb person. I think he's a good prospect but just not for where we are picking.

No he wasn't. Ekblad was ranked #1 way more often. And Reinhart was usually ahead of Bennett too.

The Oilers have nobody who plays like Bennett. If anything, a player like Bennett is what they're missing. Draisaitl and Bennett are pretty much the same height. Draisaitl is a bit heavier but Bennett still has room to put on weight. And Bennett is WAY more physical. Has Draisaitl ever thrown a hit before?

Can't go wrong with Tkachuk, Dubois or Jost IMO. There is no reason for any Flames fan to be upset with today's results. We didn't win but our rivals didn't either and we're getting someone good regardless.

Tanking is the opposite of class and generates a losing mentality. It's a non-starter because it is not a sure thing. Look at the respect Edmonton gets around the league as a complete team! Sure they get a lot of McDaigle talk, but it ends there. Is that a system in which you'd be proud to cheer for?

Bennett wasn't the top ranked player according to most scouting services. He was however, ranked above Draisatl by all of them.

I think the Oilers could take a forward quite easily. I think they move their current players to the back end and draft one of Dubois or Tkachuk
I really hope One of those 2 forwards falls to the Flames

I was under the impression that the Flames need a big strong manly player with lots of chest hair that can play like a tank and it seems like Mathew Tkachuk is that player. So why don't we want him? Wouldn't he be be a great LW next to C Bennett?

There are some people who think Tkachuk is a product of Dvorak and Marner, and that by himself he's not a top talent.
I can't say whether I agree or not, as I haven't seen him play very many times, but that's the issue some have with him.

Fair point, I could have sworn Draisaitl was in the 6ft 2in-6ft 3in region, didn't realise he was only 6.1. My bad. My point was, Bennett was ranked higher than Draisaitl in almost everyone's list(and he was the top ranked guy in the CSS list) and was in the conversation to go 1st OA. We know how he slipped to 3, because the Panthers wanted a d-man and the Sabres really liked Reinhart. But why did the Oilers pass on him and take Draisaitl? I could have sworn the talk at the draft was because Draisaitl was a bigger player and played the harder game. But again, whatever the reason was, surely you can agree that they didn't draft BPA. That was my point.
Oh and next time, don't be a tool by posting "so much wrong with this". Explain why, I'm more than willing to admit when i'm wrong, as I clearly was on a few things. But my general point still stands I think.

As a Flames fan your very close to being a Debbie downer! Your almost suggesting the Flames should have been "that bad", or that tanking is the way to a top draft pick. Use the oilers as your model, picking a top 3 draft pick is not a guarantee that the oilers will win anything! We have some great pieces with elite skill and a great group of defensemen. Don't be too hard on yourself, we have a lot of things to look forward and excited about with this team. Go Flames Go!!

If a defenseman is the best player available in your board at 6, I think you take him. I mean look at what Ruseell returned at the deadline. Top quality defenseman are incredibly valuable and right now our d corps is higher on potential than results. If all that potential pans out, what a great spot to be in.

To be fair, we'll likely find out how good he is next year should he return to Junior. Marner will surely stick with the Maple Leafs, he's more than outgrown the OHL. Dvorak on the other hand is AHL eligible if i'm not mistaken(as I have been already tonight ), so the Coyotes will have him up with their AHL team I'd imagine from the start of next season, if he doesn't make their big team. Leaves Tkachuk on his own in London, good chance to see if his offence is because of those 2.

This would be especially helpful if the 2016 draft is bumped to June 2017.
