ya, this is just so sad. I don't know how you don't rush to the hospital when your child is so stiff they can't be put into a car seat.

They should get the maximum.

So disturbing. How could they just watch their child suffer like that?

This situation is so sad... I can't bear to follow the twitter feed, as vague as the details are.

Judge: Mom started giving Ezekiel rescue breaths, he began breathing again. David told 911 didn't need ambulance, they would drive him.

WTF? "Yah we're good - he only stopped breathing."

@ValFortney
"The stewardship of children is the parents' responsibility!" Man bursts into courtroom yelling. Sheriffs whisk him out. Judge continues

Wow.

It wasn't intentional. They didn't want the kid to die. They're just useless, horrible, negligent parents.

EDIT: The relevant provision of the CCC.

Valerie Fortney
@ValFortney
Judge: not proven that the Stephans' failure actually "caused" Ezekiel's death.

Valerie Fortney
@ValFortney
Judge: says Crown's jail term of 3-4.5 years is too excessive.

Sigh... I was expecting at least 3 years.

Sounds like husbands social media/media stupidity might come back to bite him in the ass. Good.

@ValFortney
Judge: David's comments were more focused on consequences to himself than remorse.

EDIT:

@ValFortney
Judge: criticizing David Stephan's appearance on anti-vaxxer video. "The trial was not about vaccination."

@ValFortney
Judge: Reading aloud David Stephan's comments on video, blaming the ambulance for the child's death.

There ya go, jackass.

Yeah starting to sound like she might get off light while he gets a tougher sentence. But it also sounds like it's going to be less than 2 years.

I like this judge.

He is nailing the nuance of the case.

Can he rule on the family law part of whether they lose their kids or not or just the criminal part.

Not really. The judge laid out some pretty good reasons as to why.

And somehow they think this is a bad result for them.

Valerie Fortney
@ValFortney
Crowd in spectators gallery bursting into tears, sobs; David Stephan looks at judge, Collet sobbing, rocking back and forth.

The stage that each is in in their grieving process should not affect the sentance they get.
