My god, that was pathetic, Hughson:

What was the context of his comment? Was it some kind of sarcastic pining?

He was promoting the playoffs on Rogers and it was said in the context of how many Canadian hockey players still have a chance to win the cup

It came on the heels of his mention that there will be 185 Cdn players in the playoffs.

After today, I hope the lotteries are won by Calgary, Columbus, and Winnipeg (in that order).

The hockey Gods should reward the #1 Overall pick to the Jets, for going undefeated through the month of April. We could have tanked just as easily.

Fine. So long as the Flames land 2nd for having the second best record amongst basement teams in that stretch.

I'd take any of the top three. But ya, Matthews is pretty awesome.

Columbus? Meh, they should've been way better this year. I guess you could say that about us too. They were middling down the stretch. I don't think they deserve anything. Although I'd rather Matthews go there than to our division rivals.
I liked WPG's compete down the stretch drive. I liked BUF's as well although they've had enough top picks for my taste. Gotta give credit to TOR, for a completely dismantled team of castoffs and young players Babcock sure had them as a real tough out for their talent level.
I think CGY (never had a top 3 pick), WPG (can't remember them having a high one in a long time), and TOR (love the way they don't quit) deserve the top 3 the most both for not having had oodles of top picks already and with how they played down the stretch.

Calgary deserves a top 3 pick if they have been around for 35 years, and never picked that high. Last time Toronto picked first was 1985, when they selected Wendel Clark. The Winnipeg Jets 1.0 drafted their franchise player, Dale Hawerchuk in 1981, after going 9-57-14.

You see you guys. We didn't fold in our last two games and the universe rewarded is. Not watch us win the lottery.

4 at 3 in overtime
The Islanders can still pass the Rangers.

The Flyers clinch a playoff spot due to the Bruins losing. Great game.

Nobody talked about this game, I wonder why?
Jones with the 20 save SHUTOUT and Pavelski gets the GWG on the PP.
The Sharkies finish the season with a home record below 500, the only playoff team to do so.

Talk about deja vu, what is it with the league scheduling the Predators and Stars in Dallas on the last Saturday of the regular season? Gotta be more than a coincidence, 5 goals scored in both games, last year Dallas won 4-1. Jaimie Benn gets the hat trick last year, Jason Spezza does the same this year! Oh yeah, the Stars win gets them 1st place in the west.

It will be interesting to see how much effort the Islanders put into winning on Sunday.
On the surface, it looks like a loss would be better for them. If they win, they overtake the Rangers and would have to face Pittsburgh in the first round, which would mean a likely match-up with the Capitals in the second round. If they lose, they'd stay in the Wild Card and take on Florida in the first round and the winner of Detroit-Tampa in the second round.

Yeah, I'm big on Florida, but they aren't battle tested like the Penguins. However, the Penguins will be relying on Zatkoff in net (at least to start), and while he's decently talented, he's never had near that much pressure before. Malkin's on IR, and a bunch of players are banged up. Despite the Penguins being hot of late, I'd still take that matchup over a relatively healthy Florida team with Luongo in net.
You're absolutely right about facing the Capitals in the 2nd round though. That should be instant death for almost any Eastern team.

Will they? Why won't Murray have recovered in time to start game 1? Unless you've seen something I haven't, there hasn't yet been an indication that Murrays knock to the head last night was anything other than minor and him being shut down was just a precaution.

Either way, you're relying on an unproven goaltender. Some would say that's better than Fleury in the playoffs but I'll take capable experience every time.

For the way they finished out the season, I'd be more than happy to give it to them and take 6th.

Craig Button predicts Julien will be let go by the B's. I would love to see the Flames hire him.
