VR was $102 on the Weekends last year too and that did not include cart which is $40 extra.

Yah VR is twilight only for me as I don't think its worth full value.

Mind you barely any Calgary courses are.

It's been a while since you have heard from me! I try to only email you when I have something worth hearing and this would be one of those times. Spring is upon us and we're busier than ever! In fact, it's been so busy that our little store just isn't cutting it anymore. We have acquired a new location that is over double our current size, we're putting in a top of the line Flightscope hitting bay and we're now going to have a full service club repair facility!

We're expanding to the point of offering pretty much anything you want club wise plus adding on the repair / grips side of it as well.

The address of the new location is 445-12445 Lake Fraser Drive SE. Not only is this spot bigger but it's also more central! It's just off of Macleod Trail, just south of Anderson Road in Avenida Village so very easy to get to from anywhere in town.

We're still open our normal hours this week, then we're moving Sunday, closed Monday and we plan to be back open in the new location on Tuesday April 19th.

With the land value where it is at, any inner city course is going to have to charge close to $100 a round to make it a viable business. Only city operated courses can afford to charge $50-$60 a round.

Friend of mine told me in Scotland they can charge GBP 500-600 for 12 months of unlimited golfing and he was shocked by the high green fees charged in Calgary.

Green fee's in Calgary and the surrounding areas are ridiculous. Go back east to visit family in Ontario and we end up golf in Michigan for $50 with a cart and we're the only people on the course.

2 edge sword though. I heard last year was one of the worse business wise in the Calgary area due to the high cost of green fees.

I can't imagine in the economic climate this year it will be much better. Not to mention the crazy amount of membership deals available right now.

You haven't checked out Nanton and it's rates?

I have not played Nanton but Speargrass is our go to course as its close (live in the SE) and reasonably priced. Even then its overpriced compared to courses anywhere else in Canada and the States.

I'm not saying there aren't budget friendly courses but they are few and far between and they're usually a decent drive way outside of the City limits.

Speargrass is my go too as well. Good balance between price and quality. Sure there a plenty of better courses, but I'm not paying that

Prices of golf, especially on the west side of the city, are absolutely ridiculous.

Played WigWam in Phoenix on Thur last week. 83/83. Pretty happy...and it was reasonable warm weather, not gross hot. But the best part is we got 36 holes done for $55 in under 6hrs. Was just awesome.

I love playing that course, especially the last 3 holes. A great value for what they charge in green fees.

Delacour is the best bang for the buck, I think.

Also, pro tip: the burger in the clubhouse is superb.

Is anyone hitting a Callaway XR driver? I'm wondering how much of a pain it is to adjust, last year's model is a pretty decent price so I am intrigued.

The trick to golfing at a decent price, if you can make it work with your schedule, is twilight pricing (most start at 4-5pm) and the early morning weekday rates that are becoming more common. Otherwise, there are few semi-private/public courses in the area I would comfortably pay $100 and think it was money well spent- hell, Redwood Meadows might be the only one, maybe Heritage Pointe. Otherwise, I am happy sticking to twilight times on the weekdays.

Did VIP for a few years, but just not my style. Requires you to plan rounds days in advance instead of just picking up and playing when you feel like it.

I wasn't looking for new clubs but I noticed the prices had all gone up thanks to the weak loonies.

Like this TaylorMade RSi, I remember them being $900 this time last year and they are now $1250.

Friend of mine has it and he loves it. I am thinking of getting it also but might hold off another year with my driver and upgrade my Wedges.

Just booked my rounds for annual May long trip to Flathead valley. Whitefish south, eagle bend, meadowlake, and whitefish north. Wont be as great a deal with the exchange rate, but should still be awesome. Great golf and good micro breweries in that entire region.
