It makes sense. NJ doesn't need a dman - they are desperate for skilled young forwards - Barzal or Ratanen make the most sense.

If they would take hiller back in exchange... I would be willing to make that trade. So something like...

Hiller + 15th overall + klimchuk + 2nd round pick

For

Ward + Semin + 5th overall.

Seems to be there is a lot of focus on the 5th pick. Are there any likely options to get a pick in the 7th-10th pick. Seems to be a "ledge" after 9 or 10. May be easier to get a team to move back 5 or 6 spots. Then again I guess that team would also be taking note of the "ledge"

Most likely the picks from 5-9 have about the same value. Carolina is the team most likely to trade down to get rid of cap problem players, so they are logically the team most target with these proposals.

Wards contract doesn't hurt the Flames at all (cap wise). And we can deal with Semin even if the flames trade him in his 3rd season and retain a bit of salery.

It's a huge/serious offer for the pick, just not sure if it gets it done though and don't think the Flames should offer more to be honest.

Seeing many posters including recent first round pick Klimchuk in trade proposals. I get that this is thought a much deeper draft class, but was there some development disappointment I am missing in Klimchuk's game?

Not at all. hes gotten better I think. Not sure what others logic is but I can see an average sized LW like Klimmer get moved given the Flames desire to get bigger. Still, I don't like the idea of moving Klimchuk but for Provorov, there's few players I would not move.

Not at all, he looks good (in my opinion anyway). I just think you have to give a good young player to even have a chance at getting a deal done. If anything I think it's a matter of ppl valuing poirior over Klimchuck. One of them probably has to be included.

It's a big year for him. Players like Klimchuck are good reasons to keep tabs on the AHL!

Oh man! I'm so looking forward to the young stars tournament this year!

Gross overpayment for eating two bad contracts, especially a $7M anchor. I don't think moving up 10 slots is worth $27.3M dollars le alone adding a 1st rounder, a previous first rounder, and a second rounder. Calgary comes out on the very short end of the stick in this trade.

I think we'd have to throw in a b level prospect and lower draft pick rather than Klim or Po. Provorov or any of the aforementioned prospects would be a amazing pickup, albeit probably a pipe dream at this point. This draft, and our aggression in the trade market has the potential to set us up as contenders for years to come. I love our current management and scouting teams.

Could we eat salary on this as well? Tough pill to swallow for our ownership group, but our recent playoff run coupled with our low payroll the last couple of years makes it feasible.

Rather not have Semin on this team and I doubt he would buy into the system anyway. If we acquired him we could trade him again right away at 1/2 salary and probably get a decent return though. Semin at 7M is a boat anchor, Semin at 3.5M is a different story. Maybe Pit? they need affordable wingers to play with Crosby/Malkin.

Something like:
To Car - Hiller, #15, 3rd
To Cgy - #5, Semin, Ward

To Pit - Semin (3.5 retained)
To Cgy - good prospect (they don't have much for picks)

I watched Klimchuk play a few times this year and he really reminds me a lot of Eberle. Great work ethic that will help him make this team eventually.

If we acquired Semin and were retaining salary when flipping him, I'm looking at Washington's first

Wouldn't that be an amazing sequence of trades. I'm already a big fan of the management group, if this happened I'd eat all their pubes...

Frm what I have read recently surrounding the Canes, Ronnie Francis says he wants to keep and re-sign Ward and E.Staal. Francis also said if they were to deal them they do both have full NMC's so it'd be difficult to get what they feel they want.
They have had meeting with those two player to assess where they're at in years wanted and dollar amounts.

So I think right now Wards off the block.

If anything Semin is the only anchor they want to ship off with any priority. And they think they can get a kings ransom for Skinner who is on the block now.

Still, if you could pretty much guarantee you get Provorov while taking the full value of Semins contract, You have to do it. Semin is still ridiculously skilled and has a top 5 shot in the league. Something the Flames need. Right handed to boot.

I think if Ward is in there then CAR's 2nd is coming here too. We'd have to chip in a Hanowski, but that's the proce you pay for quality picks.

As New Era said, that is a crazy amount to pay for picks, even for Billionaires.

I think 5 OA + Semin for 15 and a 2nd is fair. They'll get a bunch for Ward and Skinner too, so the rebuild can start.
