I listened to the whole thing. By the end it felt like I was slumped in a chair with Slimer taking a giant dump on my head while Gozer poked my stomach with a spear coated in ghost pepper residue. I don't recommend it.
Well if there's any good news that comes from this, maybe well see a lot less of Melissa McCarthy for a while.
You look at her body of work, and outside of Mike and Molly which was not good, her recent movies like Tammy, Spy, the Heat and Identity theft which she's been the featured star, she's been the absolute worst and unfunny and most cringeworthy part of the cast.
I give Kristen Wig credit, I don't think she's that terrifically funny, but there is a very good actress in there. When she's a supporting actress she's excellent. But like McCarthy when she has a leading role, she's not good.

I think Kate Mackinnon will be the only enjoyable parts of this movie, shes good. Wig I can stand in small doses. Mccarthy and the other one are just one dimensional crap.

Wiig's very good when she's not playing some insanely over the top character. Which she always plays. She was my favourite SNL cast member until the last couple years when she basically turned into a lesser Chris Farley.
Wiig is better than McCarthy, but only because she can actually act. Her issue is what she finds funny, and thinks everyone else finds funny, isn't funny. So when she has any creative control, the wheels fall off.
Jones is meh. She isn't funny in this day and age. Had she come along in the 90s, she'd likely have fit in with Sandler and Farley very well.
I feel bad for Kate Mckinnon. She is the best one of the four as far as comedy goes, and I am willing to bet she also sees the least amount of screen time.
In terms of this movie, McKinnon may be not in it too much. But overall I don't feel bad for her, I think she's set to become the next Wiig in terms of transitioning into big comedy movie roles.
Been way behind on SNL on the PVR, been tearing through them lately. I can't believe how much they've been riding her lately, especially the second half of the season. She's in practically every sketch! I think she has a very bright future...near future at that. I doubt she's on SNL for any more than a couple seasons going forward before transitioning into movies.

My guess is she'll be around SNL for the next four years (i.e. Hillary's presidency). They'll probably make it worth her while, dollar-wise, even if she has a reduced role the last couple years by only doing Clinton sketches.
Wow that sounds awful and not that far off of what we've heard and seen out on the web.
I think this will be the end of the GhostBusters franchise.
I think that the one thing that's terrible is that it sounds like this play was written to the lowest common denominator. At the heart of the original ghost busters it was a pretty intelligent comedy, and this reviewer is right, they played every joke straight, they didn't mug it up or basically look at the camera and wink.
This new GhostBusters just sounds dumb and if the spoilers are for real, then it explains the whole, its just men on the internet being sexist response to reviews of the trailers.
Like I said, I don't wish ill to any of the cast members, I just tend to think that people are putting them in movies where they're the headline because of their sex. But its pretty clear that Wig and Jones and especially McCarthy aren't really leading lady types. They're too one dimensional in those roles, especially McCarthy who is terrible.
Like I said before, Wing has some good acting chops in supporting roles. She was good in the Martian for example. She was tremendously funny in Walk Hard. But she's just unfunny when the movie is about her. McCarthy just does the same thing over and over again, and I think she needs to take a break from saying yes to every script that comes out and try to do some different things. She was so unfunny in Tammy and Identity Theft for example that this Ghostbusters movie might wreck her prospects for leading roles for a while.
Leslie Jones is Leslie Jones, she's a lowest common denominator actress that actually plays up stereotype roles because its easy. She just doesn't have acting chops. She's the least funny member of the SNL cast.
I would expect that this years Ghostbusters is going to be last years Jem, in that it has such negative press now that it will open to empty theatres and be yanked in a couple of weeks.

Has 69% on RT reviews, though... which if it's that terrible, you'd think it'd be in the 30's if not lower.

Strange how many people actively want this movie to fail.
I mean I know the IP is not mine to protect but there is something nearly perfect about the original that I kind of wish they just left well enough alone, you know?
At the end of the day I don't really care, and I know it's irrational but a poor version of this movie somewhat retroactively ruins the first.
You can't always trust reviews from professionals on pre release.
It's true, and there were only 35 reviews, so it wouldn't be surprising if it dropped. But it's probably not going to drop below 50%, which, based on the descriptions of what the movie actually IS sounding exactly like the trailers look (read: horrible), I am confused. Still no interest in seeing it in theatres, regardless.
