Canada controlled the play really well. Just couldn't bury their chances.

It's effectively been 180 minutes of Canadian offensive incompetence, lest a penalty handed to us. Last week I'm looking at match ups for Canada in round of 16. Now we just need to find a way to not lose to Netherlands, who have more offense than NZ.

What's the scenarios if we lose vs. a win?

The scenarios are so complicated with how the wildcards work. Depends what groups the third place team from as far as round of 16 match ups. But in terms of us winning the group, I'm looking at it right now: Win and we win the group. Draw and China wins then we're second. Canada loss and a China win with enough goals, we could be in trouble.

At some point you have to stop playing pretty and text book, and give it at feet or in the direction of Sinclair to go route 1 down the middle of New Zealand's back 4 especially in the last 5-10 minutes.
Far too cute trying to play it around the back then in the middle, and then get it out wide...then for what, outside of a pat on the back from DeVos on commentary to retain possesion and look good doing so?...usually followed by some iffy cross with no one, outside of Sinclair, as a threat in the air? Se
I realize she's probably tired, and maybe double teamed, but she's used to all that after this long in her career. You've got one of the best strikers as far as pure goals in the world of women's soccer, who's big and strong on the ball, and she barely got a touch the last 5+ minutes after her shot wide. Find a way to get it to her and give her a chance at least, and make New Zealand stop her.
This is the World Cup, at home. Win by any means necessary. The game is often sloppy enough, and set pieces are really really poor, so the winning goal doesn't, and likely won't be, pretty. Let your best player have a go at least.

Let's say that 3rd Group B won't make it. Since Thailand will have 3 points but will have a terrible goal difference. Canada with 4 points is almost certain to make the round of 16 unless they lose to Netherlands by 2 goals and NZ beats China, finishing last in the group.
So:
2nd Group A plays 2nd Group C (this is certain) (Cameroon or Switzerland)
Now the wildcards
Third teams qualify from groups: 1A 1B 1C 1D
A C D E: 3C 3D 3A 3E
A C D F: 3C 3D 3A 3F
A C E F: 3C 3A 3F 3E
A D E F: 3D 3A 3F 3E
C D E F: 3C 3D 3F 3E
If Canada finishes 1st, 80% chance of playing Third place from Group C (Cameroon or Switzerland)
If Canada finishes 3rd, 50% Germany, 50% Japan

Just got back to the hotel from Commonwealth.
It was really fun being at the game. Erin Naylor played well for New Zeland.
I didn't know rain was forecast (it's been beautiful my entire time in Alberta so I never thought to check). I got soaked, it rained extremely hard, but beer seemed to make up for it.
Wish I got to see a win, but at least it wasn't a loss.

It's the first time I've ever watched a Women's football match. I was curious if today's game was comparatively boring or was it an average game or an exciting game? Simple question. No reason to get upset.

well it was a zero-zero tie so obviously not a barn burner...Canada had their chances though and should have put a few away

Back from the game.
When the game was delayed for weather they announced that all fans were to leave their seats for safety reasons. Security and police tried to get those who werent moving to get going.
pretty miserable storm. Impressed with attendence because the hour before game time was a full on prairie severe summ err storm.
not sure how it was on tvbut in the stadium the officiating was terrible in the first half. Way too many whistles ruined any flow, and NZ flopping was a lot to handle. Second half was better so i suspect there was a chat at half time
took my 6 year old. First time she has been to a big event of crowds of this size. She got bored with the game and cold with the wind and wet. Still had a good time though. Her favorite part by far? The Wave, whi c h went around 5 or 6 times. She had never seen it before and thought it was great. She was looking for it to come around every other time it tried to start. For something the experienced fan takes for granted, it had quite the impression on the first time attendee.
canada seemed to lack urgency on offence. Defensively we lost focus again like the china game. Have to address that. We should have won the game and have to start burying the chances we do get.
final comment: if you are a scalper with a handful of seats, on a momentary break in the storm, and it is 5 minutes before kickoff with 10 s of thousands of seats unsold, you need to realize it is a buyers market.. take my offer. Yeah, youd have lost $$$ butit was more than the zero you got when i walked away. And tell your arsehat friend who is trying to tell me what a great deal id be getting to pay 5 bucks under face value to f-off. Telling your buddy to take me to a bank machine wasnt a great idea. Cost you the deal. And not only did i only have to walk 10 steps to be given free tickets, i only had to walk 20 more to have MY CHOICE of free seats. So mr scalper, let me just say thank you for being a total dick and getting me to walk away, saving my hundred bucks, and getting better seats than what you were selling.

Were they doing this during the match or during the rain delay like killer_carlson mentioned?

You have failed your child. The wave? It truly is the sign of a poor football match.

I don't think turf is as popular as it is in North America. Grass really is ALOT better to play on. Easier to slide on, more forgiving. Easier to chip, and shoot on.

Nah, that was just my use of imprecise language. I meant "turf" as grass, not artificial surface. But the question was answered previously - all venues need to use the same type of turf, so they couldn't just leave the natural surface in Saputo.

Not sure to be honest, I would guess during the rain delay. I do know that they were allowed to continue after discussing with cops and the head of security (sounded damn good too). From what some of the guys have told me this happens at every big game.

This is a completely valid question, IMO. For first timers, Canada's two games have been notably poor advocates for the women's game. Fortunately, the answer to your question is no.
