I guess you can throw money at Hiller or Miller, but I'd rather sign someone behind Ramo and can reliably be called upon to play when he's injured or fatigued, guys like Emery or Greiss.

I wouldn't mind Antti Niemi if the Sharks truly are shopping him to create cap space.
Not sure what he would cost but he would be a good 1A, 1B tandem with Ramo.

It has to be tempting to look for a capable 1G in this market. I think the Flames like Ramo, but with Hiller, Miller, Ward, Reimer and more available on the cheap there has to be some temptation.
Personally I want a guy like Montoya, Griess, or Johnson.

Leafs expected to make another offer to re-sign Bolland today. I don't see Toronto going beyond 5 yrs or $25 mil. May not be enough.
This makes no sense to me. Bolland is ideally a 3rd line centre who can spot into the top 6 every now and then. How does he refuse a contract like this?

Because the Leafs sat there and praised him at every opportunity last season, and said that him being injured was a main reason for the collapse down the stretch.
Then you also have their VP telling you that the said he wants you on the team and that they will re-sign you.
So pretty much he is squeezing them to try and get as much money as possible before re-signing.

Bolland('s agent) may just be squeezing them for every last cent and day that he can secure for himself. Being obstinate for one contract negotiation is short term pain for long term gain.

they gave Clarkson 7 years and 5.2m per year, so IMO Bolland would be stupid not to at least try and ask for a similar contract. They really dug their own grave with that horrible Clarkson contract.

Bolland is a good player, but you can't make that mistake again.

I guess the Leafs haven't learned from their first mistake with Clarkson.
Sign him and lock it up! (I've said this before), but signing Bolland and Clarkson, 3rd liners for over 10m for a few years will be hilarious .

Buffalo didn't qualify Jamie McBain. 6' R shooting D.
Was a bit of whipping boy for the Sabres.

From what I remember, Jamie McBain was starting to carve out a decent career in Carolina before joining the Sabres.

The Flames should sign him only because of this:

Dreger is the one spreading rumors of how much Bolland is asking for. I think he's setting the stage for Nonis to either sign Bolland to a contract that is much cheaper than 5M a year or Bolland leaving as a UFA.

It sounds like the Flames will get an extension done...the Devils have an eye on this.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: CAR was looking at budget-related options (trade or buyout) to clear goalie Cam Ward's salary but now appears Ward will be remaining in CAR.
@TSNBobMcKenzie: CGY was one of several teams that had talked to CAR about Ward. Barring another change of mind, Ward will be CAR's No. 1 G next season.

I didn't follow him in Buffalo this year but I remember a lot of people thought the Sabres won that trade last year before Sekera turned around and put up 44 points with the Canes. A few seasons ago he was the equivalent of Andrew MacDonald IIRC. I think he's a worthwhile reclamation project. Prefer him over Gilbert. But again not the big physical dman we need.
