Calgary's drafting has been quite good since about 2010.

I have no idea how Bartschi's reputation around the league blew up like it has.

Jankowski was a horrible pick then, and still remains to this day. The Canucks are going to be rebuilding and they don't need a GM who is going to pick a project player

It took me a second to realize he was of the opinion that return wasn't highway robbery for the Canucks.
BTW, I just love that as a fear... Because GMs ALWAYS go loot their previous organizations for top prospects. That's like, a regular thing that happens in the world.

Jankowski probably won't become an NHLer, but I think he's a better prospect than Gaunce, who has not shown any progression over the last 2 years.
So it comes down to Poirier vs Shinkaruk.
Based on the results of this season, you have to take Poirier. Add to that the rumours of Shinkaruk's teammates in Medicine Hat absolutely hating him.

No they don't because then they will end up with a player like Jankowski instead of a player like Hertl, TT or Maata

Horrible pick? Are you an uneducated canucks fan (redundant I know) or one of these whining flames fans that can't wait to turn a thread into something about matta?

While true, I really struggle to see how you give credit to a GM for this - notably one that says himself he does not do the scouting.
Maybe he gets credit for hiring more staff?
Also, it always seemed like it was Weisbrod that really drove the direction of the Flames.
All in all, I would not be the least bit dissapointed to see Feaster GM of Vancouver.

Judging a GM on drafting, good or bad, seems nearly impossible without knowing how the actual scouts ranked the players.
You have guys like Burke who go out and do scout work on their own and who are willing to overrule their own team's scouts at the draft, then guys like Feaster who admit they don't do much scouting and the scouts make the list that decides who gets picked.
Is it Feaster was good at drafting here or were the results good because he let the scouts make the list/picks instead of overruling them? Maybe Sutter's drafts were poor because he didn't follow his scouts' recommendations. Who knows. I don't think you can really say one way or the other without seeing the lists, unless the staff changes under the same GM and you have multiple years under both crews.
too slow...what he said^

Take a poll of all honest Flames fans and I can assure you the majority would want one of Hertl, TT, or Maata over Jankowski

If we had picked one of them keep in mind we wouldn't have Sieloff either. It'll be a few years before we can evaluate that trade.

I'd rather we have picked Teravainen (even Maata) than Jankowski. Didn't like the pick then, still don't like it now. Was angry at the time how arrogant Feaster and co. were for proclaiming that they knew something the rest of the scouts and GM's did not, thinking that they were all wise.
I'm not going to say any more on this topic because a) there's posters on CP who will trash me for hating that pick, and b) it's been beaten to death.

I was talking to my cousin (who's a Canucks fan), and he's absolutely pumped about Gaunce and Fox.
I told him we once had a 50 goal scoring overage prospect from the OHL too, his name was Bryan Cameron. I told him to go look him up.
