I think the difference between last year's and this year's team both is and is not a reflection on Iginla.
I agree with you that the notion that he was lazy or a coach killer was completely unfounded. This season has shown that he's willing to play within the system a coach installs without cheating or having the team succeed in spite of him.
That being said, one of the big successes this year is the way this group of players became a team, with many guys taking on leadership roles on and off the ice. That didn't and wouldn't have happened with Iginla here not because he actively discouraged it, but because everyone saw the Flames as Iginla's team on and off the ice. I imagine it would have been really hard for a young guy like Backlund or a new guy like Hudler to become a force in the dressing room when you have the face of the franchise, the all time leading scorer, an NHL all-star, and first ballot hall of famer there. Similarly, when a big goal was needed on the ice, it's easy to sit back and leave it to Iginla because of how often he'd done it in the past.
When Iginla left, it left a huge gap that either would have been a void that crushed the team, or an opportunity that lead to growth. The fact that the Flames have flourished in Iginla's absence should be as credit to the strength of the guys left behind, not a fault of the guy that left.

Congrats Iggy!
Boston looks down right unbeatable right now, I really, really hope they can carry this into the playoffs, and finally get Iggy the big shiny thing.

IMO, he was one video review away from winning the Conn Smythe in 2004.

Congrats to Iggy. Really sticking it to the haters who gleefully told-ya-so'd when he didn't gel that great with the pens and got swept by the Bruins.
If only we had ONE center of Krejci's quality for him at any point in his entire career...
Hope the Bruins can get 'er done in the playoffs for him. I think he will be a big motivation for the team. One more reason to win it.

Definitely. The hockey gods owe him one for sure. To think that ungrateful St. Louis has a Stanley cup ring AND a gold medal that he doesn't deserve. Iginla should have been on team canada instead of him an should have his name on the cup already.

You know, I honestly see a 600+ goal scorer in him. And 1300+ points.

I doubt they count it even if it was reviewed but I agree, had they won there is no doubt who the winner would have been and that is saying something considering Kipper had a tremendous playoffs as well.

If they had cameras like they do now, would be pretty simple to tell one way or the other. Never understood why it took them so long to put a camera above the net.
I agree, Kipper was phenomenal.
I remember reading somewhere that Iginla was hoping to play till 40, health permitting. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Congrats to Iggy. He's been on fire for a while now - keep it going into the playoffs and see if he can't help the Bruins get the job done.

Great accomplishment by a great player. While the 30 goal streak is impressive, what's even more impressive to me is that since breaking into the league, Iginla has scored less than 20 goals in a season only twice (and one of those seasons was shortened by a lockout; had he played his usual 82 games last year, he was on pace for 25 goals and had he hit one of his god mode hot streaks, who knows).
He's nearly 37 years old, he hasn't had any major injuries in his career, and he's still one of the best conditioned players in the game. He should hit 600 goals sometime in the next two seasons, barring unforeseen circumstances. Should he continue to stay healthy, I see no reason he can't do like Jagr or Selanne and continue to be an effective player well into his forties. I know it's a long shot, but I think that if any player in the league can come close to doing like Gordie Howe did and play into his fifties, it's Iginla.

Congratulations to Iggy.....he's had a terrific season with the Bruins; seems to be a perfect fit and is being used in all situations like he used to.
Please go win the big one now.

Iginla is the final piece in the puzzle to put the Bruins over the top. Boston will be Stanley cup Champions this year.
