I'm pleasantly surprised by how good Monahan has been this season. I was one of the guys doubting whether or not he'd be ready for the NHL. So glad I was proven wrong.

I think, he stays in Calgary and Colborne and Jackman get bumped from the line-up when Stajan and Cammalleri return.

I had a dream last night that the flames sent Monahan and Sieloff to the world juniors.

It turned into a nightmare when Sieloff knocked Monahans head off.

I would think a lot of 18 year old kids are too mentally fragile to handle the inevitable NHL slump, which is why you want to protect them from shattering their confidence long-term. With todays "special snowflake" generation, I assume that's only more pronounced.

But Monahan talks and acts like a 40 year old man. I have a feeling he's not some emo goth inside, and can handle some mental adversity. His demeanor is what reminds me of Joe Sakic the most.

The ice-time issues when Stajan/Cammalleri come back does concern me though. I don't ever want to see him in a 3rd-line role here. If the Flames know that there's a good chance that will be the case, they should send him down, and we can revisit the situation next year.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Monahan gets sent down.

Burke has publicly stated that it never hurts a prospect if you send them down. Good examples are Reily and Kadri. THe one time he did in Schenn, it looks like it was a bad decision in hindsight.

I wouldn't be surprised either...and I'm still leaning that way myself. There are plenty of young guys that we can focus on developing this season without having to rush Mona-Doh.

Monahan has effectively been in a third line role since day one and I think it's been fine. Getting limited minutes, more if he's playing well etc. I'm totally fine with that. It's if he's playing 2-3 minutes a night on the 4th line when you start to ponder.

As for injuries. Worry about returns when it happens. By the time those two return we'll probably have a fresh batch of injured guys.

I should add that being a 40 year old emo goth is as fantastic as it sounds.

As someone who just turned 21 I want to dispute this so badly but then I look to my row of "D" finalist trophies and realize.

The Flames will sell a boatload of Monahan #23 jerseys if he is kept up this year.
I know a lot of fans are just waiting to spend $ on a new one but not until the Flames give the green light he is staying.
There are plenty of Iggy and Kipper jerseys that will be replaced with Monahan jerseys if that happens.

If Monahan comes out with 8-12 points in 9 games (which I see as very possible)

How the ####ing #### do you hit the trap door button on that?

Like I've said before. There's a lot of cases where the player at hand's time is better spent in juniors developing, even if there is an insane amount of talent or promise. It still needs to be harnessed and refined with more experience and coaching. But then there are those select few who just go out there and earn every bit of their right to stay, and there is nothing we can say against it. Monahan is looking to be one of those guys.

If I'm Jay (who WILL make the ultimate decision) I'm not even thinking about Ottawa at this point. If he starts to stumble on their road trip against Anaheim and the likes of the Cali teams, then it maybe comes back into the conversation. But even then it's tough to make that call. Just seems that his development is better spent here. He's too good, too smart for an inferior league. That's almost as plain as day at this point.

Why do we have to cut Monahans ice time so much that it's better to send him down?

Why don't we roll 3 solid lines for the first time in years... Frankly, Stajan and Squid will be fine if they lose a couple minutes of ice time to Sven and Monahan.

Great game by Monahan tonight. First career GWG.

Lets lend him to Canada for the WJC. Great experience for him. Once in a lifetime opportunity!!

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth Like a genuine, Bona fide, Electrified, 23 wearing Monahan! What'd I say?

Monahan!

What's his name?

Monahan!

That's right! Monahan!

[crowd chants `Monahan' softly and rhythmically]

I hear the crowd is awfully loud...

He scores as softly as a cloud.

Is there a chance his allegiance could bend?

Not on your life my Flames fan friend.

The ring came of my pudding can

Take my pen-knife my good man

I swear he's Calgary's only choice, throw up your hands and raise your voice

Monahan, Monahan, MONAHAN!

Mona....D'oh!
