Did it take you 6 episodes to figure out Breaking Bad was good?

Nope. Took one show. Definitely knew who the good actors and the bad actors were after the six episodes though.

Sounds sensible when you put it that way. The description kind of reminds me of Jarome during the periods when he struggled with his game. I'm sure we all agree that it's best to deal with that while he's young rather than letting him do his own thing and being forced to face it later.

I really don't understand why he would be bummed out about being assigned to the prospect camp. I can understand him maybe being caught off guard initially but at the same time he could have used it as a good way to get additional hockey in before preseason and get off to a fast start. The more I think about it the more I like Burke's comments to the media as it's a good reality check for a kid that maybe has got a little ahead of himself.

After the pressers yesterday and chatting with a few players, I'm wondering if the Flames aren't going to be quite as bad as some people think.
(Spoiler: they will probably be not particularly great.)

The way I look at it is, the forwards aren't all world superstars, but they're not that bad. Bunch of guys who can put up 25-30 goals, grinders that can wear out the opponents and a good mixture of youth and veteran leadership. The defence is probably about average to below average, but again, not the worst in the league. Also, with the possible emergence of Brodie, the defence might look alright by the end of the season. The real question is in goaltending. If Ramo can give us above average goaltending, we might push to be one of the top 4 teams in the division. Keep in mind also, this season might be the first in a decade where we have a capable back-up for the entire season. The starter won't have to carry the entire workload as was the case in years past. On top of all that, there's the cross-over factor. The other division in the West looks to be the worst in the NHL.
Anything can happen honestly.

The power-play should be good.
The penalty kill will need to improve.
Five-on-five, it'll be interesting to see how competitive they are.

If they were committing to playing a trapping game, ala the Phoenix Coyotes, they might have a shot if they got good goaltending.
However if they still want to play their up-tempo, aggressive form of hockey that Hartley prefers they likely won't be able to compete on skill with other teams.
I think they may get off to a good start and will surprise some teams during the first 20 games, only to then tail off and struggle in the last 60 games.

Every team has a chance of making the playoffs in any given year.
The team that wins the cup is the most talented team that plays with the most chemistry and luck (injuries, 'bounces', etc). Everything comes together for their magical road to the cup.
A few teams that don't quite have the chemistry still make the playoffs simply based on the amount of talent on their squad.
A few teams make the post season even though they are not the most talented, but really come together and play really great.
Flames don't have the talent on paper. They also have quite a number new faces on the team. Can they make the playoffs? Sure they could, but they would have to have extraordinary chemistry and luck. They would have to beat out most teams that have more talent and who don't have as many changes to the team. Tough to do at this level without a doubt.
I don't think the Flames will finish last. I think if everything goes well, they will find themselves in the 4-9 spot over-all. 9 being a very, very good performance by the team.
However, it doesn't matter to me. What matters is that they build this team right, and play hard every game. I personally don't expect playoffs for 3 seasons. I really believe this team will do worse next season before it starts to get better. How quickly they get back to playoffs really depends on how good of a job they do in drafting and development, and how good of a job Hartley does in molding them into a good NHL team.
I don't for a second even 'wish' for playoffs. I just see them going down the right path for now.
Edit: 4-9 spot being 4th last - 9th last, not 4th best to 9th best. Just to be clear.

The key is chemistry, and that's something intangible that nobody can predict. Did anybody see the 2004 group gelling the way they did? Heck no, and Darryl Sutter basically went mad trying to replicate that chemistry in Calgary for the rest of his tenure.
The comments yesterday about the team hanging out together off-ice gives me some optimism for the year, though.

So he's obviously instrumental in us trading to bring in a garbage prospect in Colborne and then talks down about Sven? I'm already over Burke.

Yeah, that's fine. But I'm of the mindset that he should do just one thing to improve the team, just one god damned thing, before he opens his mouth.

Based on what you said, I would say influencing a trade of a 4th rounder for a prospect with potential and ensuring another prospect is aware of the expectations they have of him are both improvements to the team.
