There was nerd panic this weekend as rumors circulated that the show had been cancelled, followed by denial and near confirmation that the show would be back next year in its new time slot.
They've certainly set up a nice swerve as the only one who was in mortal jeopardy as a main character was Starbuck who we last saw doing a controlled flight into the terrain. Its unlikely that Tigh, Adama, Adama Jr, Baltar or any of the Cylons will be killed as they weren't in any mortal peril, nor was Roslin, or Boomer or Helo. I'm almost willing to bet that Starbucks husband whats his name goes down in a blaze of glory, since we need to further destroy Starbuck, who will probably be captured.

Overall, a pretty dull episode that underlines why people in the Military shouldn't dip thier pen in the regimental ink.
The fights didn't blow off steam, they created more.

For amusement, just resurrecting the boxing episode discussion in light of this blog piece from a few days ago in the LA Times about military life in Iraq, including female on female, cigars, etc . . . . . :
friday fights .
CAMP RAMADI - So how do soldiers and Marines relax from the unrelenting stress and violence of war?
With the Friday night fights, of course, rowdy three rounders with plenty of energy and aggressiveness if often lacking in pugilistic finesse.
“Come out punching and have fun,” was the referee’s instruction, and few disobeyed
Hundreds of personnel packed into the tin-roofed Morale, Welfare and Recreation building at this massive, mud-soaked camp to watch 16 bouts. True to military tradition, cigars were sold and smoked with great fury.
Army medics and an ambulance were at the ready. The commanding officer of 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division sat in the front row, puffing his cigar.
One bout ended in a third-round knockout. Another was truncated when one combatant suffered a dislocated shoulder throwing a roundhouse. One fighter lost a contact lens on the canvas. One fight ended with a ferocious, if unintentional, low blow.
The bloodiest bouts were the two involving female personnel -- to the crowd’s howling delight.
The crowd was raucous: Shouting, booing, laughing, providing unsolicited advice. Many stood on chairs for a better view. “Uppercut, uppercut,” was one frequently shouted instruction.
The three matches that pitted a soldier against a Marine carried an extra passion. “Ar-mee, Ar-mee, Ar-mee,” was chanted, answered by “Attack, Marine, attack.”
The featured heavyweight match, soldier vs. Marine, ended in a draw, with each side shouting in mock-fury that it had been robbed. In each of the bouts, ferocity ended in sportsmanship, with the contenders touching gloves and embracing.
It was a first, but not a last. As the crowd filed into the chilly darkness, to the nearby sounds of helicopters and mortars, there was talk of new matches next Friday. The goal of the evening had been achieved.
“For a minute, I forgot we were in Iraq," said Capt. Mihai Sofronie.

So . . . . . . who did Dana Biers recognize among the Final Five before she dropped dead with blood oozing out of her nose?
Is it the obvious Starbuck or someone not so obvious?
Are we on our way to Earth?

Wouldn't it be neat if our friend Colonel Tigh turned out to be a cylon?

It would be Happy Hour to Eternity . . . .
President Roslin would be neater . . . . tying up the religious angle.
. . . . and why did those five unknown Cylons appear at a temple built by humans 4000 years ago just as a star mysteriously goes nova?
Obviously this seems to be leading to some kind of shared destiny between these two "races" of sentient beings, even though one was created only 40 years ago.
Memo to Lee Adama: stick to fighter planes instead of congregating your guerilla fighters at the bottom of a gully so Cylon Centurions can attack you from the high ground from all directions. That didn't look too bright.

Too obvious - I'll be dissapointed if that proves to be the case, though obviously it depends on how it plays out.

There have been rumors about the shows cancellation - I think that was mostly due to the actors/mp workers strike in Canada.

I was thinking the same thing. Why would Cylons appear in a temple built by humans?
Were the Cylons created 40 years ago? I thought the story was that no one heard from them for 40 years before they attacked Earth; I didn't think we had been given a definite timelime for their creation.

Cylons were created by man . . . . they eventually became sentient and turned on their human masters. A war ended with an armistace 40 years ago . . . . theoretically no one had heard or seen anything of the Cylons through those 40 years, although you saw an episode in the first half of season 3 where Adama had inserted a spycraft into Cylon space which was immediately pounced upon.
The new "Caprica" series was/is ostensibly about the decisions which led to the creation of the Cylons and the point where they eventually turned on humans.
So . . . . all of that is a long way from a temple constructed 4000 years ago, which is obviously part of the mystery that is unravelling.

The temple may be 4000 years old, but the 5 lost cylons could have visited there 40 years ago in a similar quest to find the 13th colony or find the humanity thats been denied to them. Everyone wants to be like thier god or creator, so it makes sense that the Cylons have an overwhelming urge to be more human.
Since the other 7 Cylons haven't heard or seen anything from the 5 its also logical to assume that the 5 aren't spying on the humans for them or have infiltrated thier society with an expression of doing harm.
The eye is the super nova, so its likely that the 5 that were at the temple or were in some way connected to it probably failed in thier quest to find the 13th colony since the road sign wasn't there. So in a quest to find thier humanity they joined the human race which means that anyone could be a Cylon, and we might not just be looking for one, but 5, but it looks like Xena only looked at one face.
I think the Baltar as a cylon is a lure thats going to turn out to be false, its just too obvious as is Starbuck. The president could be a good call, and she could be somewhat aware that she is a Cylon as she has made some pretty baffling decisions since the start, and was cured of her cancer by Cylon blood. Tigh could be one, which might explain the wink by Brother Cavill as oppossed to some cheap shot about his eye being pulled out.
I think Cavill knows more about the 5 then he lets on, he was far too persistant in shutting down a defective model.

I've been a fan of the show since the miniseries came out and I just realized today that D'ana was Xena. She's pretty hot.

Ugg, you think so? Doesn't do anything for me. The oriental cylon on the other hand......yummy.
This has to be one of the best tv shows I have ever watched, think I am going to have to buy all the DVD's.

Just to keep this thread alive.
A very slick episode tonight that for the first time in a long time didn't focus on conflict and the Cylons, but focused on Baltar and a triangle of relationships.
Yes it appears that Starbuck is still somewhat of a dirtbag on the show as she tried once again to draw Apollo away from Dualla while continuing to use Anders when she needs him and leading him along like Heroin leads an addict. Meanwhile it appears that there is trouble in paradise between the Chief and his wife. Apollo looks like he found a new love in the bottle as he spent most of the episode either drinking or stumbling around like a drunken moron crying his eyes out. I was mentioning to the girlfriend that it was odd that there was no mention of Boomer, the baby, or the captured version of number 6, and it looks like the next episode is another filler episode.
Why dosen't anyone actually torture Baltar. First the Cylons use nipple clamps on his fingers when they torture him, then the human's drug the crap out of him. Baltar basically confessed that he did help the Cylon's in the destruction of the colonies, and the murder and torture on New Caprica, and even though he was a dupe, he somewhat knew what was happening. Stay tuned for the trial.
Meanwhile they tossed some hints that Gaeta might be one of the missing Cylons, and Gaeta did little to dispell that with some odd behavior. Sneaking in to try to see Baltar, then later trying to kill him.
Was I the only one that knew that Baltar wasn't going to buy that Roslin was going to toss Baltar out of the airlock?
Baltar finally believes that he's not a Cylon, but there's still no explaination for the illusion of Number 6.
Overall a decent episode that focused more on individual problems then the trip to earth.

Let's also remember that Caprica 6 also had her own illusion of Baltar - something that hasn't been revisited since, but hopefully will be explained at some point.

I was hoping someone would revive this thread. My buddy started watching BSG a few weeks ago and I sat down for one episode (near the end of season 1 on DVD) and have been hooked ever since. Been motoring through all the episodes over the last couple weeks just to catch up.
Good episode tonight, curious to see why Gaeta wanted Baltar dead so badly at the end. Speaking of Baltar, I have no idea if he's a Cylon or not but it sorta seems like he might be something more than either a human or a Cylon. Like a transcending, uniting factor between the two races, if that makes any sense (ie: God's Chosen one that the 6 in his head claims him to be)... or he's just really good at playing both sides for his own gain. Easily the most interesting character on the show.
Guess we're gonna have to wait till next week to see what happened to Athena, Hera & Caprica 6 too...

Loved that episode.
That was one wild dream Baltar was having in the opening . . . . One Six kicking the chair out from under his feet while other Six's cut him open in the resurrection bathtub with their fingernails . . . .
And what was up with those kids being in his other hallucinations . . . . one of them pushing him under water? Symbolism?
Maybe I missed it, but what did Baltar whisper into Gaeta's ear in the overhead jail scene near the end? Gaeta went berserk.
All around though, probably one of my favourite episodes of the entire series.

It was a pretty amazing dream right at the start, but I think thats when he finally figured that maybe he wasn't a Cylon.
I think all of those kids and rough looking people around Baltar in the other dream were victims from the wall, Baltar's guilt manifesting itself over his insistance that he was a dupe, because shortly after that he basically said he was responsible even though he wasn't.
I think Baltar regained his sense and has started playing mind games of his own. First accusing Gaeta of being the real traitor, then he probably whispered "I saw 5 other Cylon's in the temple and your one of them" We didn't hear that, but its the only explaination that I can think of for Gaeta losing his mind.
Doesn't explain Gaeta waking up earlier in the epi and going to see Baltar.

It seemed to me that Baltar was playing to the camera, and announcing
that Gaeta was just as guilty as himself. Thus, if you put Baltar on
trial, you better put Gaeta there too.
We can't hear what Baltar said, but my guess is that he just pushed the
right buttons, "If I go out the airlock, you're suffocating with me."
Baltar was the only human to see Gaeta play both sides, so Gaeta wants
him dead, unless Baltar absolutely clears him.
"Outside," Gaeta is rejected and/or tormented by others, we saw that
in a previous episode. However, he is trusted by many, as he passed
along the important info, including Adm. Adama.

I was thinking something along the same lines . . . .
And I agree Baltar is regaining his feet and back into the "survival mind game mode."
Doesn't explain Gaeta waking up earlier in the epi and going to see Baltar.
It would be interesting if Gaeta, as a Final Five guy, had been a puppetmaster controlling the Six in Baltar's head all this time, pushing Baltar in various directions . . . . . and would explain how Gaeta knew Baltar was trying to hang himself.
I like it when we have these riddles hanging over our heads.
