Who was consistently worse in the West than the Flames between 1996 - 2003?

If the organization was more forthright in this crisis there would be much less speculation and gossip tossed directly at Iginla.
I think that if this silence continues, the organization will feel the effects for years - those effects being the perception they hung Iginla out to dry at the end.
|
Yup, I'd agree. Iginla is the victim of a culture of poor drafting and development, and as a result instead of us being able to give him the Yzerman treatment, we're forced to sell our best asset to keep the car on the road.
But we can't avoid what we are now, and until Iginla is gone, this organization will continue to chase the dream of him going out like Elway.

I'm an Iginla fan but also a Flames fan. Don't think it has to be one or the other.
Of course people like myself feel attached to the captain and it will be sad when he does go, but I think now is finally the time. Will still cheer for him wherever he goes, and will still cheer on the Flames as hard as before.

Fleury was not "chased" out of town, we couldn't afford him if I recall?
You could categorize this as chasing Iggy out of town, but for 3 seasons he hasn't cared anyway, so it's not like he'd be affected by it? It's not like the situation can get worse?
|
You realize that ou are critquing a post that ackowledges the poor way that star players - hall of fame calibre players - have been treated by fans as they leave the organization.
And each of Vernon, Fleury, and Macinnis WON a cup ring while here.
This isnt about fans wanting winners, it is about hanging Iginla out to dry.

Either way, bringing up a group of people the way you did makes it seem like you're implying specific posters belong in that group (otherwise it's a massive non-sequitur).
Which isn't a discussion, people don't like to be stereotyped. Reply to specific people or specific posts and specific ideas, not a group created for the purpose of criticizing.
|
How is it not a discussion? Disagree strongly but will drop it regardless.
Also it's not necessarily a criticism either, if your an Iginla fan first your an Iginla fan first, I don't really care, but I do think it's sad for the Flames.

I googled it and this checks out. Seems we were the worst team in the west, I don't remember it that way though for some reason.

What do you want fans to say?
Let's keep him?
He's classy, nobody's debating that. He's a great guy and has served the team well, nobody's debating that.
So? what now?

Exactly. So to say Iginla has done nothing but achieve personal accomplishments is ridiculous. He was the centerpiece to making this team become a contender for a few years, including losing game 7 in the SCF, which they should have won in game 6.

We were near the bottom every year while the rock bottom team rotated but we still tended to be the 2nd or 3rd worst consistently while these rock bottom teams did have a good season or two in-between. So if anything we were consistently pretty crappy just not the worst.

By definition it's not a discussion when someone addresses a general group of people (that aren't all present) that share a point of view rather than responding directly what people are posting.
I'm not saying drop it, I'm saying reply to people rather than saying "there are Iginla fans, and then there are Flames fans. There's a huge difference." which is just a way to deride the first group implying they aren't the second.
If it is a discussion, which poster specifically are you talking to that is an Iginla fan but not a Flames fan (because there's a huge difference)?
