No reason for the Flames to remove the retro, and use it so much, if you don't intend to keep it in the future for frequent use. And since rumours indicate it's just one jersey, it may be just to compliment the retro home to make the full switch.
If that is indeed the case, I hope they go full retro, and remove the black stripe outline from the Flames logo as well. It'll unnecessary since black wouldn't be a colour present on the primary jerseys anymore. All the other teams that don't have black as a team colour don't feature a black outline. If they remove it, I think it would make the logo look sharper strangely enough. Really completes going back to that 'classic' look.
Compared to with black outline.
Now even if it is the case that it's a brand new jersey, if it still follows the theme of only red, yellow, and white being the colours on the jersey, the Flames should make the switch to remove the black outline if it's the intention to transition the new jersey into becoming the primaries in the near future.

Yes! This is my biggest problem with the current away flaming C, without the black outline it looks so much better, especially from a distance.

Sounds like the ducks and the panthers are both planning throwback jerseys for this year. http://www.icethetics.info/blog/2013...hrowbacks.html
Has anyone heard more on the flames new third jersey?

The panthers do throwback jerseys an awful lot for a team with one good season to its name in 20 years

They had that stupid blue one that seven other teams had as an alternate that's supposed to look vintage. Except they're the panthers. Maybe not actually a throwback but they're going for something that they've never had regardless

i hope that the current thirds are retired for good. they were worn way too much in past seasons. i would like to see a complete redesign of home and away jerseys. in my opinion the third jersey should only be worn no more than 8 times per season

I might get hate for this but I like the Red and Black more than the Red and Yellow. I just can't stand the red-yellow combination. I'm okay with it for a third jersey because of history and tradition, but wouldn't like to see it full time.

I really like the current jersey set-up.
The current red and black jerseys are great, the flags on the shoulders are one of the best features of any NHL jersey, and the 3rd jerseys are not only classy but actually *are* retro (instead of some faux-retro, 'old-looking' jerseys like many teams have). The away jerseys are alright looking, and there's only like 25 of them in existence so I don't really care anyways.
