Really enjoying this signing.

Marvelous observation. I was wondering about that but was too lazy to rewind the PVR

I was just thinking about this earlier today, that .500 hockey should be 50% of the points that have been awarded in the teams games for the season.
So right now the Flames have 8 points out of the 19 points given out so far this season in their games.

Technically correct. But seriously, we are pissing on 3-3-2 when 2 games ago the sky was falling at 1-3-2? My goodness.

Brutal PGT, take the .500 fight elsewhere.
About the game:
Not very good, not very bad. The Flames played down to their opponent again but they took control of the game as it got closer to the end, and really I think the BJ's were somewhat lucky to get that point. (They did work for it though.)
Irving was okay. I wouldn't say great, but he did all that was needed. Let's hope this win gets some of that rust and nerves out, as he was a bit jumpy at times. What I liked though was that he played the best when the game was on the line. That's a top goalie quality.
As to individuals:
Tanguay has been great. Backlund is looking really good, let's hope the injury is not too bad. Butler seems much less hazardous with Smith for some reason. Can't really see why that would be, and I don't really care. Hard not to like that anyway. Got to love Wideman-Brodie. Cervenka deserved his goal, the guy has been promising.
And it's so odd not needing to worry about Bouwmeester He still has a couple of bad habits I think he needs to shed (like just following guys around the defensive zone when there's a clear chance to break up the cycle for example), but I have a good feeling that the coaching staff is on it. Other than that, these days even when he's not playing great, he's constantly actually useful out there, like a star defenseman should these days.
Rant time:
I am really starting to get tired of Iginlas game this season. His defensive work ethic is too often just atrocious. Way too many times the guy just skates around idly, zero pushback, no physicality, just waiting for someone else to get the puck back so he can get on the offense. He has also become even more of a perimeter player on the offense. He'll be lucky to score 10 goals this season the way he is playing now. Yes, he still has that world-class vision and yes he is setting up some nice goals, but he is way too far from playing like a 7 million dollar superstar scoring captain. On pace for 6 goals this season.
/rant
Stempniak is making me eat some serious crow. I remember thinking there was no point in re-signing this guy, but he has been great, even when he is not on the scoreboard. (The captain could really take some pointers. Flying up the wing and blasting one top corner, that used to be Iggy's shtick.)

His defensive ethic has been fantastic. I don't know if I could disagree with you more on that point. He's been the first forward back on multiple instances and his limited PKing has looked pretty good as well. He's been more physically imposing so far this season, so I also completely disagree with your "no physicality" comment.
I do, however, think he is sticking to the perimeter on the attack far too often. I venture that part of the reason is he's trying to run the offense instead of waiting for Tanguay or Glencross to eff up a pass to him.

Two quirky, downright weird announcer moments, two wins. We need Kerr on HNiC to make some weird comment about the green men

Actually I thought his defensive game was weaker in Columbus then it has been. Maybe he thought he needed to be the guy to tie things up or get that go ahead goal, but he wasn't as engaged last night as he has been through the season.

There's a big difference between saying "his defensive game was weaker in Columbus" and "His defensive work ethic is too often just atrocious". The first could be a valid point, the second is out to lunch.

Personally I wonder how Hartley got through to Iginla because Itse pretty much had Iginla of the last two seasons nailed.
I coach Atom kids and I use "Iginla coverage" as a buzz word when the wingers get in that grey zone between not covering the Dman high, and not collapsing down low and helping out in the corner - essentially covering nobody and just standing in open ice hoping to get the puck and go.
This year he hasn't been that guy for the most part.
I've never though Iginla to be a lazy player, but my guess was always that he wanted to help the team win, and felt he had to score to do that which justified his positioning to him in their zone.
All guessing of course.
Interesting to see Hartley get to him.

It is really funny that you say this as before the OT goal, I was cursing Iggy for not going down low and helping Brodie out to gain the puck. He was pretty much just standing there and waiting to go on the offense. It did work this time but he needs to commit and help his team win those battles. I guess though that could leave his d-man open.
Brodie won the board battle and, by skating to the front of the net, opened up a lane for Iggy. Really amazing play on Brodie’s part.

Brodie is the single most exciting thing to happen to this team so far this year. Hopefully Backlund isn't too hurt as I put him second on that list, and the Czechs third for pleasant surprises.
I'd heard Brodie was advancing in the AHL, but you can sure see it now, and I love that he's top four minutes in the first chapter of the season. He'll be even better by late March and a force next season.
Hopefully Baertschi gets back and into the fold ... last night's game was classic of the type of game that Baertschi will use to move up the roster. Tough first, he scrambles some lines, guys find chemistry. If Baertschi was on the roster last night he would have gone from fourth line to second and had a chance to stick.

Way too many haters in this PGT where the flames won.
If you think 3-3-2 isn't .500 hockey than you should probably go back to school or just keep your head down and stop posting on this forum.
Irving played decent enough to win under Hartleys up tempo system. If this was the sutter system would be a guaranteed loss. Definitely give him the start in Van.
Iggy has definitely been much better defensively this year. He's made a few defensive plays that had me in disbelief when I saw the number 12 on his back.
I am just loving Brodie, he's got amazing offensive instincts and still makes it a battle in the defensive zone. Great 1-2 punch with Wideman on the powerplay giving us another reliable pair with Gio-Bou.
All the haters can go away, this kind of season start should have been more than expected. Flames are notorious slow starters (mainly due to iggy) and were learning a new system with a new coach waiting for new players to join the squad. The players we didn't expect much from are the ones turning heads so far (exception is Comeau) and the rest of the team seems to be coming together just in time.
I do have a question, has anyone on CP seen Gio block a shot this year? I don't know if hes just trying to avoid pucks this year or if Hartley's system doesn't include blocking shots, but that was one of his best attributes the last few years and I've seen none of it this year.

I can't stand people that choose negativism as a sport, but you also have to be careful with this line of thought.
No "haters" could be confused with "drink the kool-aid or don't post" which is pretty much the last thing I want on this site.

But it's lime kool-aid, the tastiest of them all.
No that's very fair and not what I'm trying to get across at all. I'd just prefer if everyone used logic rather than blind hate when posting sometimes. Negativity is more than okay when called for, but come on guys we won with our backup goalie against a good starter in Bobrovsky, albeit on a bad team. But hey, Flames typically lose against bad teams so this was quite an anomaly
