My point was, yes kipper, butler, cammaleri sucked but at the end of the day u look at the avs schedule (and injuries for that matter) and it is very indicative of the quality of this roster that flames are last place in the league or close to it.
Pretty embarrassing nite for the roster after all that rest and practice.
|
Ok yeah, the text-speak ipad stuff threw me off. Can't really subscribe to the idea that you judge the quality of this roster by one game, especially with the injection that seems to be Hudler/Cervenka and a few re-energized Flames players.
Agree on the last three minutes though. Pretty flip-flappin' (and by that i mean ****ing) embarassing.

That sounds pretty cliche, but doesn't really hold IMO. The team didn't give up and mail it in. They were creating chances in each period. Right before the PP that lead to the winning goal, Backlund had a great rush and narrowly missed.
They didn't lose tonight because of lack of effort, which is usually the case. They lost because of lack of execution, mainly from the man in the net.

This game simply came down to goaltending. If Kipper was good or hell, even mediocre, the Flames come out with 2 points.
It was there in the third period for the taking, it's not as bad a loss as you're making it out to be.
|
There were the same defensive miscues by the same culprits. Butler, Giordano, Bouwmeester, etc. The breakdowns are still happening and I don't buy that this game was solely a byproduct of poor goaltending. This team is playing the arguably worst defensive hockey of any team in the league right now and you only need to look at the GAA for proof. A lockdown game for this team is only allowing 3 goals.

Exactly, is there a hockey fan who does not have a poster of Iginla above his bed who thinks this team is any good on paper? There is a reason why every single independent hockey analyst says the Flames suck. And contrary to popular belief, it is not because of a massive media conspiracy against the Flames that is also covering up the fact that Armstrong did not land on the moon. I swear only Flames diehards, Feaster and the ownership group actually think this team is any good.

If we can get something like Seguin, a prospect, and a 1st I'd seriously consider it.

This team really continues to disappoint. Just one game, but the shortened season is really getting away from them already. Really bad sign if you can't muster up a win over injury depleted Colorado on back to backs and 3 and 4. Same lack of mental toughness from a team that has shown a complete lack of mental toughness for the past 3 seasons.
Oh well.

I think you'll really need to temper your expectations.

Glencross was embarrassingly bad.
Iginla is slow and weak.
Bou played great.
Stajan's line stole the night.
Kipper was weak.
Backlund looked great.
Tanguay played great.
Why do we make so many excuses for Iginla not scoring and being the most boring player on the ice but jump on Backlund. He had fire in his game today. Bench Iginla and give him time to pack his bags.

Funny thing is the Flames did win games over the last three seasons. Enough to be into playoff contention in the last month of all three seasons. They simply couldn't win at the end of the season when the pressure rises which IMO is more on the players and leadership in the locker room than the coach. It's beginning to look like they won't be winning many games at all this season so if you like this crap hockey you are probably going to enjoy this season.

Well, come on guys. The Flames coulda won this game. The Flames shoulda won this game. The Flames woulda won this game. Take pride in that. Just ignore our current position at the bottom of the league. The results really don't matter.
I mean if the last three seasons haven't taught you that patience will pay off then I don't know what will.

Really. You'll only consider it if we get a player that is young and currently better than Iginla + a prospect+ a 1st? I know I'll regret asking, but why?

Let me break this down one more time.
1. TSN predicts that we will do terribly.
2. Next year we make some moves that should improve our rank.
3. TSN ranks us even worse.
Notice a problem between step 2 and 3? Yeah, thought so. They should predict us higher. At that point it doesn't even matter where we finish. Right from there you can see the bias against the Flames. Even when we theoretically improve.
That kind of stuff affects Vegas odds which you seem to hold so precious. Understand?

Argh, look at the avs schedule coming into the game. The avs best players, heck their top lime is out. Losing this game was unacceptable.
The flames are last place in the league. They showed up against a rival on Saturday, great, nice to see kipper letting in 20' back handers in after 4 days of rest.

I'll take the latter, which is what happened tonight IMO.

Clearly teams only have the two above options for years on end.

Flames only gave up 13 shots in the first 40 minutes but had 3 GA, none of which were chances that were all that dangerous. The first goal was probably the most dangerous and that was just a brutal turnover by a guy in and out of the press box. That's not an overall team issue.
