Our chances at finishing last are materially improved if we play the rest of the season 7 games under 500, which isnt that far fetched with st louis and chicago coming up, and all the road games in april
Is that more interesting now?

Much more interesting and I think 6-13 the rest of the way is certainly possible. That would give the Flames 38 points this year and that would definitely put them in the hunt for 30th overall.

With the games in hand on Florida weare as far out of last as we are out of the playoffs. Realistically we will end up in the 27-28 range.
It's going to come down to what the bottom teams sell off by the deadline. Flames could trade one or 2 of their top forwards and their top d-man. That will be a huge loss, if they are not getting back NHL ready players that can slot into those vacant slots. Not sure you will see that done by the other teams.

I am a little worried the Flames will go on a run after the deadline. The only time they have really played well over the past 18 months is when they have had a bunch of regulars out of the lineup. It seems the guys they might trade, when out of the lineup, actually spur on the rest of the no name Flames to win.

If the new guys or the guys from the heat that come into replace them play well enough for them to get wins, then i am fine with that. At least it will give them a little hope for next season.
I am hoping the flames will have at least 1 if not 2 extra 1sts. In case they are booted out of the top 5 from good play, they will be able to trade back into it.

That is fair, and the guys on the heat or any possible replacements probably have more heart than this country club group, but unfortunately the vast vast majority of Heat players will never be full time NHLer's, so it is not like we are even winning with future prospects. We really only have 3 or 4 prospects max on the Heat right now.
I always hate to see the Flames lose but I have a bad feeling this season, I'm afraid they will be bottom 3. Better for the team at draft time but crappy they suck so bad. GFG
