But apparently wins don't = successful rebuilds, flashy young players and nice goals do. In which case, I would also like to congratulate the New York Islanders on a successful rebuild!
And for the record, I take Tavares over any player on the Oilers roster.

You're right, a year down in the WHL wouldn't have hurt him. However, spending a season with the parent NHL club and finishing 2nd in Calder voting is much better for player experience.
If you want to look at a team that might've rushed their prospect, look at Winnipeg with Burmistrov.

Blame the Thrashers
And the Jets learned the lesson: see Schiefele

I am all for the Oilers playing their teenagers.
14 ELC years from their (current) big 5, and after this season 10 of them will be burned with no playoffs and no actual team in sight.
Keep it up TambLowe!

The Oilers rebuild is hardly a "great rebuild" at this point. I am happy for them that they at least have a few players (Eberle, Hall, J. Schultz) that might form a good nucleus, so that they will someday be competitive in Battle of Alberta and they may eventually contend for a playoff spot again. The Oilers have been beyond ridiculous for awhile, even with Hall, Eberle and RNH on ELCs.
Very soon, the Oilers will be like every other team (including the Flames) that strives to be competitive within the salary cap. They will have to settle on 5 players to lock down, and then fill the rest of the lineup with a mix of veterans and lower-end draft picks, using trades and free agency whenever possible. Has anyone on the Oilers management shown a track record in building a proper team around good young players? no.
Hall and Eberle ELCs expire this year, and then it is 6 year $6M per year from then on. Next up, RNH and J Scultz (he only has a 2 year ELC). Not to mention, Gagner (RFA this year) and then Yakupov. Tough decisions lie ahead. How will you justify re-signing this core group of players to 6 year big money contracts when they have not made the team a contender?
Look back at what Chicago had (and did) when Toews and Kane were on ELCs. Edmonton is nowhere near as good. Once the ELCs expired, Chicago lost a ton of talented players to the rest of the league. If I was a troll, I could argue the talent of the players that Chicago LET GO is as high as the talent that the Oilers currently have.

Yeah but if they score very few "nice goals" then its irrelevant. For a team that brags about all of their great offensive talent they sure can't score.
Part of that is system, a bigger part is how that team is built.

The Oilers will still miss the playoffs this season. The Oilers have very little cap room for next season so they better hope the young players keep improving because that is the only way they can make the playoffs.

No team in sight and yet they are fighting for a playoff spot. I love this thread, by far my favorite to look back at and laugh.

So this Thread was bumped so Tinordi could pat himself on the back while taking a dig at the Flames?
Neat!

Really?
You have been trolling around here for days and days now looking for a pat on the back or some kind of hero cookie because you seemingly see yourself as some sort of visionary.
It's pathetic....(especially in this example) considering the Oilers have done nothing of note as of yet except to look like they will be drafting right where the Flames have...for years. Did you also predict that? No? Hmmm.
The fact that every single team in the league will have to go through/already have what the Flames are right now at some point, makes it even more laughable.
Unbearable.
