Disagree.
1) it's not that bad
2) Depending on her situation, your partner has likely been accepting a level of discomfort for 20+ years, and doing so quietly. Milking it is childish. Being uncomfortable for 2 days is peanuts compared to the effort your partner has put in for the better part of her life
3) you aren't owed any rewards. Unless you've been waiting on your partner every month while she does the heavy lifting of birth control, she doesn't owe you a thing
4) what you are doing isn't special, unique, or even particularly good. You're FINALLY taking the responsibility for birth control in your relationship. It's called being an adult and a partner, act like one
You're gonna be uncomfortable, sure, but you'll be able to get your own ice pack and sandwich, so do it.

It has nothing to do with the partner. You got surgery. Allow people to take care of you. Stop comparing things. I didn't say it was worse than birth, and you can bet your ass I and many other husbands out there waited hand and foot on our partners after those events occurred.
But in this case, you don't need to get your own sandwich. Im not saying to be an ass with a little bell, but also just let it be. Enjoy a day off. Some of you are so tight you probably pop diamonds out your rear.

Also, its ok to give yourself a reward if no one else is going to. But IMO you are in a ####ty ass situation if you're going to get surgery and no one at all is interested in rewarding you just a little bit.
It's not just for you, you're doing this for your relationship and your family. Which is a good thing! And way better than the alternatives. But that doesn't mean you shouldnt get a pat on the back and a sandwich for making the right call.

I use my personality as birth control. It is 100% effective.

I had mine done a little over a year ago. The soreness/recovery was worse than I expected and I'm normally a quick healer. I have no regrets though. Recovery just seems to vary significantly.

You literally said to "Milk it". To me that reads like acting like it's something it's not, which is a pretty minor convenience that comes with a day or two of discomfort that can be dealt with pretty effectively with ice and some Tylenol.
Is a vasectomy a surgical procedure? Yes.
Is referring to getting a vasectomy as "Getting surgery" a little over dramatic? Yup.
Literally everything women do with regard to reproductive health is orders of magnitude harder and more effort than getting a vasectomy.
"Milking it" sounds a lot like giving yourself a pat on the back for doing the bare minimum.
I just think it's dumb when guys talk about getting a vasectomy like it's some huge sacrifice. Compared to what our partners go through, it's nothing.
Take a load off.
Enjoy a day or two on the couch watching tv or whatever.
If your partner wants to help out and get you a sandwich, awesome, good for you, but expecting anything is kind of like getting upset if she doesn't thank you for moping the floor that one time.
I don't usually go with the "Be a man about it" argument, there's just too much wrapped up in that.
But in this case, yeah.
Be a man about it. Go do what you've got to do, deal with it, and don't complain.

It's surgery, so treat it as such. Follow the recovery guidelines from your doctor and all should be good. This does mean the first day or two is extremely light on any activity.
The difference between the recovery stories of "it wasn't so bad" and "it was very painful" is most likely due to the amount of activity in the first day or two. Take it really easy the first few days and the rest of the recovery is generally quite simple.

7 hours post op. Would describe the aftermath as a consistent mild discomfort. Procedure itself was painless (except for me tensing up thoughout the whole thing) and spent more time waiting around after than the consultantion / operation.
Have 3 ice packs on the go to rotate through, wife bought me ice cream, will be bored more than anything tomorrow before working from home the rest of the week.

I would have thought that after-care instructions would have specifically told you not to milk it for a while.

Do you have to get a doctor referral or are there ways to get this done if you don’t currently have a doctor?

There are no Dr referrals required for this. Just call the clinic of your choice and set up and appointment.

Oh stop. You're literally told by the doctor to sit around because every single exertion you perform -- as minimal as it may be -- conveys some stress in the very area to which you've just had surgery on and can result in bleeding or other complications. I was told that lifting my 12 lb. cat was more exertion than I should be performing during my first week.
Following doctor's orders in this case will look exactly like 'milking it' because you're basically told to for fear of your f-cking balls not healing properly.

First week? Seroiusly?
Whatever procedure you got was pretty different than mine.
It was couch for a day, light activity for 1 or 2 more, and back to normal.
I went to rugby practice about 5 days after, and a game on day 8.

While it is common knowledge rugby players are tuffer than the other kids, I’d like to know what club before I commend you.

I don't know who did your procedure but both Dr. Crouse and Vasman would have told you not to go to rugby practice a mere five days later, and probably would have strongly recommended not playing a game at day 8.
From Intramed (Dr. Crouse):
Do’s and Don'ts After a Vasectomy
- No strenuous activity for two weeks after the operation. That includes no heavy lifting, cycling, going to the gym, bending, etc.
From Vasman's PDF:
After Your Vasectomy
- Avoid strenuous activity such as heavy lifting and sports for five to seven days. After this time, your comfort level can dictate your activity.
I mean, they're your balls, but I wasn't gonna chance it with mine nor should anyone else with theirs.
