Are there any attitude issues surrounding Iriving? Ward said that Taylor had won the position out of camp, and could be the Flames goalie of the future. There always seems to be some controversy surrounding Leland with the Heat...

If you want to see Granlund hit the post on an open net, plus the breakaway goal, plus a couple of assists, plus some Ortio, here's the highlights from the latest game (MaG is number 11):

So much awesomeness in that video from the cheerleaders to the Finnish language in general, but great breakaway goal by Granlund. Excellent first shot and great poise to stick with it and make sure the rebound went in. I think I heard Patrick O'Sullivan's name so it just goes to remind us that the SM-Liiga is not miles off the NHL in terms of level of play so that bodes well for Granlund and Ortio.

Well he also scored on an NHL starter, Antti Niemi, for whatever it's worth. Granlund's team HIFK hasn't really acquired any big lockout names, which is probably good for the young players. Teams are pretty conservative about getting them, although their local rivals Jokerit have pretty good ones in Erik Karlsson and Valtteri Filppula. Would have been disappointing if HIFK had replaced Ortio with an NHL goalie, for example.
The Finnish and Swedish leagues are comparable to the AHL. Maybe in some ways they're better because they have more mature talent, but the gap between them and the NHL is similar. In any case, talented players elevate their games when they arrive at the NHL level. Better competition and better teammates brings out the best in them.
EDIT: Looking at HIFK's lineup, they have Stephane Robidas, Sean Bergenheim, and Lennart Petrell that I recognise as NHL players. Teams are reluctant to commit to the huge insurance money the star players require.

Looks like Ortio is putting up some good numbers in the SM-Liiga. 6-6-3 with a 2.31 GAA and .920 SV%
I hope a full year over in Finland as a #1 keeper brings him back on track after last year. Although he would be battling with Brossoit for any time in Abbotsford, not to mention Taylor and Brust.

Interesting that you say that. I was out for drinks with Matt Keetleys sister last night (he has officially quit pro hockey). Apparently Irving is a real jerk and has felt entitled since being picked by the Flames. I have no first hand knowledge of this but that is what I was told last night

Again second hand knowledge, but I was talking with Shayne Barrie, Leland Irving's backup in Everett the other week at a party, and he didn't have anything but good things to say about him, says he really hopes that he makes it with the Flames because he's a guy that definitely deserves it. Also said that Irving loves Calgary and wants to make it with the Flames. This is again second hand talk, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.
Maybe Keetley and him just didn't get along?

Keetley played nine minutes in the NHL in 2007-08. Leland Irving turned pro in 2008-09 and Keetley began to bounce between the AHL and ECHL, a circumstance that continued until the (reported) end of his pro career.
Not saying that has anything to do with the discrepancies between the two stories. They could very well both be entirely true.

There's a back-to-back-to-back coming up for the Heat. Depending on several circumstances, we could see Irving as soon as next weekend.

I don't see why you should delete it. You just related a story you heard.
If anything the super overreaction and unnecessary post that came after it should be deleted.

The last thing I would take away from following Irving throughout his professional career would be that he is "selfish". He comes across as a very personable and caring young man, and even if he was to have a slightly bitter attitude at this point, wouldn't it be somewhat justified? He had battled for four years within this organization to earn shot at the NHL level last year, and did nothing but impress during that stint. Fast forward seven months and he is now sitting in the pressbox at that very same level in which earned him multiple NHL callups.
I know Ward keeps speaking about the meritocracy system that he is enforcing, but I dont completely buy it. Given his previous history with Brust and huge faith in Taylor, I can't help but wonder if Irving is being given a fair shake.

To add to your post.
The thing with Brust and Taylor is, sure they are proven AHL goalies but haven't shown anything to suggest they are or could be NHL goalies while Irving has. There is a difference, there have been many great AHL goalies who can't cut it in the NHL. I think the pressure gets to them. To leave Irving eating popcorn while he could be getting sharp for the NHL season strikes me as foolhardy.

Upon reading over the CBA, Turner Elson signed his NHL deal AFTER he turned 19, so he only gets one slide year, which he used last year.
He's burning the first year of his ELC while in the WHL. I think.

The Elson signing still surprises me a bit to be honest. I like Elson and all, and no offense to him, but we have alot of players in the system with his style of play (i.e., newly acquired Eddy).

I have no insight on Howse, or how he is doing. He has killed his social media accounts, so I'm not able to remain in touch with him like I did before.
Not sure if he deemed these social media accounts as a way to focus his attention to his profession, or what. I hope that's what it is.
With the lockout, and the amount of time he missed last season with his weight/injury issues and the NHL Lockout, its not a surprise to me to see him in the ECHL.
First game, was a +1, with 2 SOG and 2 PIM. Second game a -1, 1 SOG and another 2 PIM...so he seems to be getting some good time in. Lets hope that putting him in a situation where he can be an offensive leader (looks to be playing with Wahl right now) will get him rolling, get some confidence and would be likely the first to go back up either to replace an offensive injury or when/if the NHL owners get their heads out of their asses and actually negotiate without the "take it or leave it" mentality, back up to the Heat in a similar role.
Who knows. I wasn't there at camp, however a buddy of his tweeted a pic of Ryan after the one practice at camp, him sitting in front of the thrown looking like he just blew a few chunks, so he may have been fighting a bug while at camp and maybe just getting over it?
Obviously nasty flu bugs are out there, and if one got one, you wouldn't have the energy one would think you should have.
