Has anybody tried any custom ROMS for this thing?

Skimming through xda, it seems like they aren't quite up to snuff just yet. Just wondering if anyone has given one a test drive

Just got my 32gb S3. First impressions are good. Its very different from the iphone 3gs I've been using the last 3 years. Nice to have the extra screen real estate. Should be interesting to start loading up some apps and see what thing can do. I'm getting used to the keyboard much quicker than I thought I would.

Not sure how strong this phone is, seems like a drop could be catastrophic...do you guys recommend getting a case for it? I don't really want to make it much thicker though.

I went with the Samsung-made flip cover case. It replaces the stock battery cover. It probably isn't the best for drop protection, but it's good to prevent scratching and doesn't add more than a millimetre or two in thickness.

Yes get a case. Even a simple bumper case will do wonders for the phone in case you drop it.

I have the Commuter version of the Otterbox for mine, pretty good side and back protection, plus can still slide in your pocket easily.

I have the flip cover case. There is a thin rubber border that has worn off, but it doesn't seem to have an effect on it yet.

Sounds like a buggy app, I'm sure the guys can suggest an app to help figure out which one it is, but last time that happened to me I just removed the last few apps I had put on the phone and did it by trial and error.

So after a few days with this phone im pretty impressed. Really enjoying widgets.
A few questions for those that might know:

Is there a way to get text messages or missed calls to show up on the lock screen? Also music controls on the lock screen?

Is there a way to instantly scroll to the top of an app or webpage (on iphone you could tap the top near the clock to do it).

When using an sd card for extended memory, will it integrate your music into the same library as the phones music? Meaning all songs whether on the phone or the extended memory all get grouped into one place when you open the music player and you can access it all together.

I am not sure about stock ROMs but I know on some custom ROMs you can get notifications on the lock screens as well as music controls. On mine I can use the volume rockers to skip forward or backwards as well as on screen buttons. I believe there are apps that will handle notifications on the lock screen as well.

Don't know about instant scroll but it would be nice to know if there was.

Media files on your SD card should integrate with your system with no issues. Sometimes a reboot may be necessary if you added the card after you booted up but shouldn't be. There are also apps that will force scans for media.

I believe you can tap the top of the phone twice to go to the top of a page. This feature needs to be enabled though.

Samsung Electronics reported quarterly profit of US$7.3-billion – a fourth straight record quarter and nearly double last year’s figure – as strong sales of its Galaxy smartphones more than offset reduced orders for chips and screens from Apple Inc, the South Korean group’s main rival and leading customer.

Upgraded my S3 with the leaked Jelly Bean update. Seems pretty good so far, no issues that I have encountered.

Here is the link I followed, no rooting or flashing required for this one.

Settings>>About Phone

Check the Android, Kernel and Build versions.

So my girlfriend accidentally dropped her S3 and it landed glass-first. The glass actually looks okay, but whatever is under the glass (the actual LCD? I dunno) has tons of cracks and the screen no longer works.

What are her options at this point? It's basically a brand new S3. Are there certified dealers in Calgary that can do a screen replacement? How about sending it directly to Samsung?
