Seattle fairweather? bwahahahahaha! This is coming from a Canucks fan!
I lived in Vancouver for years and it has to be the most fairweather city on earth.

Portland, Oregon would do just as well.

Not a chance, Seattle is a couple of hours drive at night, I go down there to catch concerts fairly regularly, you can be home in Vancouver and in bed by 1am, Portland is 5 hours or so, one way, with a game finishing at 9.30pm you aint home until 3 or 4am

That's good for you. Try to stay on topic, this thread is about seattle. And the 3rd longest current sellout streak in pro sports and 9th longest of all time would tend to disagree with you, but who am I to consider facts.

This is very true. And I think they would draw for every game, assuming cheaper ticket prices than in vancouver (which they certainly would be). People would do a hockey game/shopping trip for the same price as a game in vancouver.

Meanwhile Bettman does everything to salvage PHX to the point of pure stubborness.
Seattle makes too much sense for the NHL to reward them with their little pet Coyote.

Nice sellout streak! awesome. You have one of the longest streaks without a cup as well!
Seattle fans fairweather really? Where are your stats for this one?
Seattle fans are notorious for being incredibly loyal and knowledgable about their professional teams. Their reputation is even better for being supportive of the NCAA teams here in Seattle and across Washington State.

Why don't you try an apples to apples comparison like say the MLS which both cities have.
Would you fathom a guess who has better attendance or fan support in MLS? Soccer in Vancouver just limited to the immigrants during WC on Commercial maybe?
There are 2 WHL franchises in the area: Everett Silvertips draw 5K a game while the Kent T-Birds draw ~4K for an aggregate total of 9K in a area that the NHL will draw its fanbase from.
Compare that to the 7k average that attend the Giants games in supposedly hockey obsessed Vancouver
You'd think if hockey is that unpopular, there wouldn't be even 1 WHL team, let alone 2 that in the aggregate draw more than the Giant's fanbase.
Again apples to apples. I agree Canadians will be down in droves based on price point and the availability to games much like what the Sabres go thru. Maybe have a "Canadians Welcome" promo night like 4 tix, 4 hotdogs and a choice of 4 litres of milk or gas to go when the Habs are in town.

bring back the totems
obviously they would need to change the striping and such from the original jerseys as they are exactly the same as Detroit, but there is definite potential in the logo and colors.

Those jerseys look pretty nice. I like the Metros ones.
That said I think going with a music themed name would be cool. Something the Seattle Rock i think would catch the attention of people for being different (ie not some animal or something) and has a connection to the history of the city.

MLB pillaged an old hockey name when they expanded to Denver (Colorado Rockies). The NHL should return the favour and call a Seattle team the Pilots.

That would be a great name too. Lots of potential in great name and uniforms for a Seattle team.

Geez, just a little defensive? All I said was that there are better options than Seattle, and the team would struggle to draw crowds if they aren't competitive. Especially competing with an NBA team, which they would be. Thats the exact same thing several other people in this thread have said, and probably one of the reasons they've never had a team! If it made sense don't you think they would have had one by now before cities like Miami, Nashville, Tampa, Phoenix, etc etc.
You're surprised the Giants only draw 7k? Theres a difference: Vancouver has other hockey options (ie. a NHL team), Seattle does not.
As for MLS, both teams have very good attendance, at or near capacity (you DO realize BC place is capped at 21k for soccer). Seattle having one of the best teams in the league and a population of 1 million more people probably contributes to them blowing away every other city in the league in this regard.

So what you're saying is that having a larger population base makes professional sports there more viable because of the greater number of people to draw potential fans from?
Interesting.
You have me convinced, Seattle is a good location for the NHL to consider expanding into.

In defence of Vancouver soccer, Vancouver was bringing in English and Scottish First Division teams (no Premier League than) and fielding a local all star team to play against them years before Pro soccer came to NA. Vancouver had it's own soccer stadium (Callister Park) and it's teams would often beat the visiters and they were perennial Canadian soccer champions. They even won the Kennedy Cup, a championship between the Mexican and American all stars and the Vancouver (PCL) all stars. When I went to public school the school was mad for soccer and that's all we played, and it wasn't limited to immigrants. In fact in those days the population was almost entirely of British extraction.

Not defensive as much as pot calling the kettle. If Seattle fans are fair weather, what does that say about Vancouver fans?
I like the MLS analogy b/c like hockey, it is a fringe sport at the pro level in US culture even in Seattle. Yet you see the record attendance the Sounders have comparable to even European attendance figures.
If someone had asked me ten years ago which of the two cities would support pro soccer more, I would have said Vancouver hands down b/c it showed organically. The craziness of the Commerical Drive during World Cup, lots of community fields of all ages playing the game and the long standing tradition of organized competition.
I've never seen that to the same extent in Seattle but the attendance figures speak for themselves. I went to more Whitecaps games last year than Sounders. The fans (other than the Southsiders) were corporate--sitting on their hands. Compare that to the Clink where the atmosphere is electric. The crowd participation is a game within the game with some amazing tifos.
I think you're right that people here aren't obsessed with spectator sports or it doesn't dominate like hockey does in Canada but I wouldn't discount Seattle fans as fair weather. The number of teams and attendance to support those teams prove it.
