We bought tickets for the Vancouver / LA Galaxy game at GM Place in July. Looking forward to seeing Beckham, Donovan, Keane and hopefully Del Piero. Either way, watching the Whitecaps play live is a real treat.
Being at BMO Field on Tuesday for the Canada/Honduras games was also a great experience -great field, nice facility, and they too encourage supporter sections. I noticed even when you buy a ticket with Ticketmaster, they have an "opposition" team section which is nice to see. Lots of passionate Honduras fans that were entertaining, although really loud at times and some were disparaging Canada as a country. That ticked me off :P

I've heard that the crowd was largely Canadian, correct? If so, that's good news, as I was worried BMO would be flooded with opposition supporters.

Any word on if they will be opening up the whole stadium for this game? They may not be able to sell out the 60 000 seats, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could get 40-45k, which would require opening at least some of the upper tier.
Bah, something needs to happen with the Timbers. Losing 1-0 to a LA Galaxy squad that was missing half of their players is not a good thing. LA got their first clean sheet of the season, and their first win since April.
Portland has talented players at certain positions, but they can't get it together. Not sure if it is a coaching issue, or players not performing, but I do know it's boring and unimaginative. With a match on national TV against their arch rival next weekend, things can only get better...

Last year when the Galaxy came to town, Empire Field was brimming with fans, and had a huge LA supporter section. I exepect BC Place (I think I got it correct now haha) to be packed to the brim, at least by MLS standards.

Yeah it was, but when Honduras was on the rush, the Canadian fans went so silent you could hear a pin drop. The Honduran section was pretty loud for having maybe 300-400 supporters there.

Beckham will more than likely be with Great Britain at the 2012 London games. The Caps won't be opening up the upper deck.
I've totally been on board with the Caps this year. I'm sold on the product and will be getting full season tix next year as opposed to half this season. But, the crowds haven't been all that impressive this year. It's kinda sad they can't get 20000 to a game, but down the highway in Seattle, they're consistently getting 35-40k. Caps are top 10 in average attendance, but it could be so much better.

I was a little surprised that it wasn't fully packed for the Houston game that I went to. The buzz around town seemed to be quite good: banners on light posts, our waitress had a chat with us about the game (all the way over in English Bay, not near the stadium), everyone I talked to seemed to know a little about the team, etc. They have really positioned themselves as a "big league" team there, and people seem to be responding.
I can only see it improving from here, however. They are putting up some good results, play fairly exciting soccer, and some of those casual fans will be getting converted to season tickets in the coming years. As people hear about how fun it is, they'll hopefully check out a game and get hooked.
I'm trying to figure out the logistics of dragging my wife there in August for another game. I've got some air miles to use up, and it is just so quick to get to Vancouver.
