And I've read what the ending in the book was, sounded kinda boring if you ask me.
If you say the movie is pretty accurate to the book up until the ending, then the movie ending is WAY better.

Having the guy kill his own kid, rather than have them survive, was a lame ending.
Although, the book didn't define an ending, it just said that things continued on, so that probably made a lame "hollywood" ending.

It wasn't that he killed his kid and the others, it was that when he got out of the truck, the military appeared thru the mist. Right when it happened, everyone I saw the movie with was like, "Oh sh!!!!!". Great ending and a great non Hollywood ending. If we were led to believe that everything just continued, I would have felt a little ripped off. A little.
I think ff you didn't read the book, you wouldn't have your mind set on the book ending as the way it should have ended.

The whole part with him killing his kid and the other passengers in the car was a very troubling scene to watch. When he looked at the old guy in the back seat, then at the gun, and then the old guys just kinda nods... like he knows what has to be done, it was pretty gripping. I was actually sitting there in the theatre thinking "Is it wrong that I would do the exact same thing? Could I really do it? You would have to... it's the only humane choice...." Then... he does it, followed by what I think would probably be a pretty believable reaction if you had done the same thing. Stick the gun in your mouth and prey, somehow, there is a bullet in the chamber for you. Your going through this very emotional scene..... then boom! HAHAHA everyone survives! All that was needed to complete that scene was the trollface guy to be driving the tank that comes through the smoke.
It was such a rollercoaster of emotions, and such a non Hollywood ending, that it was refreshing to see Jan De bont say FU to all the mainstream endings. I thunk the fact I did not read the book until after the film made it more interesting. Seeing the flm first, made the book seem like the worse story to me. The ending was perfect for the gloom of the film.

The Chase was pretty bad
Blair Witch is probably the only movie I've seen in theatres where I really, seriously considered walking out. PoS. I was actually mad I spent like $1 or $2 on it at the cheap theatre.
OMG I agreed with puckluck, what is the world coming to.

Jan De Bont?? The movie was directed and written by Shawshank's Frank Darabont.
I do agree with every other part of your post. That ending was an emotional ride. Thomas Jane did a great job.

Lol, oops wrong 'bont', thanks for the correction, did that one from memory, should have wiki'd it first.
You have to admit, Jan De bont did direct a few kick ass films though.

Speed and Twister?? I used to think Speed was awesome, when I was 12. I watched it again about a year ago Not so much.
He was involved in Die Hard though. So that makes up for the abortion that was Speed 2: Cruise Control

I still like Speed, goofy, but pretty neat premise. And c'mon... Dennis Hopper?
As a cinematographer, he took Probably the most famous crotch shot of all time, that had men across the world buying a 8 dollar ticket to Basic Instinct for essentially a 2 second glimpse of Sharon Stones cooch.
However looking at his body of work, I have to agree, I had a lot of his stuff confused with Frank Darabont.... Stupid 'bont' at the end of your name giving you credit you don't deserve. Go to hell Jan De Bont.

But it does not make up for his involvement in Leonard Part 6.
Speed is still great, though.

I am looking forward to seeing Season of the Witch this weekend. Nic Cage at his finest! It got 5% on RT, so it must be pretty horrible. I was thinking of going dressed up, but I don't know if I'm that committed. Hopefully they don't take it out of theatres before this weekend.

The dog was pretty funny. Other than that, I was pretty disappointed...although I really don't know what I should have expected. It's like old friends all got together, got a budget, and just decided to screw around and film it.
