What I mean by "I don't think he's declining" is that I don't think he's going to be a garbage player in the next couple years or that he'll all of a sudden become a 40 point guy. Sure his point/goal totals will go down over the years but I"m sure they'll go up as well. The fact that his points have gone down for 3 years is likely the reason he's leaving Tampa, he isn't happy there and there just isn't a fit anymore. A young star player like Stamkos usually doesn't leave their team if things are going well, I think we'll see him do better on a new team next year.
But yes, I'm sure he'll have better years and worse years but he won't get worse every year IMO.

Stamkos quickly rejected $8.5M from Tampa over 8 years so we can safely assume the conversation starts at $10M plus

I think this still gets done for under $10M. The only players with 10+ cap hits have been the anchors for multiple Stanley Cup winning teams.
Stamkos has one Finals appearance, and another trip to the ECF back when Lecavalier was still Captain.
7x9.75 is my guess.

Eh, when I watch Stamkos now, I don't see a superstar player anymore. I don't see somebody who can score at will and drive a line.
He doesn't pass the eye test for me anymore. I think there is a reason he's being utilized less.
He's fallen a tier in the last few seasons.

I agree. It will be as big of Anchor as LandPhil Kessel's contract.

Stamkos was in tier 2 but is now in tier 3.

How exactly has Ovechkin fallen off? He's won the Rocket Richard the past 3 seasons and will probably win it again this year. If he's in tier 2, who is tier 1?

Stamkos worries me mostly because of the salary cap. The Flames need to look ahead 2 years when figuring out their salary cap situation, because lots of dead weight come off the books, and Bennett gets his first big contract.
We know it should look something like this:
Gaudreau - $7.5M
Monahan - $6.5M
Bennett - $6.5M
Frolik - $4.3
Backlund - $3.575
Stajan - $3.125
Bouma - $2.2
Giordano - $6.75
Hamilton - $5.75
Brodie - $4.654
TOTAL = $50.854
Let's say the CAP goes to $80M in 2 years. There's $30M to sign 3 D, 2 G, 5 F. Luckily the current signed D should be the 3 highest paid as should Gaudreau, Monahan, and Bennett up front. If the rest of the players average $2.5M that adds $20M to the total, giving $10M for the goalies.
Stamkos may be able to fit in 2 years, but what if this year's draft pick becomes a superstar who commands $6M plus in 3 years? Chances are reasonably high that this will be the case if the Flames get a top 5 pick. What if Ferland deserves $4 million+ or Kylington turns into Gostisbehere? That means Stamkos could burden the Flames in 3 - 4 years time, and there's no certainty that he will be worth the contract given.
The Flames are in rebuild mode, still. Gaudreau is 21, Monahan is 20, Bennett is 19, Hamilton is 22, Brodie is 25, and there's no goalie. The Flames need to continue to groom their young players, while shedding the salaries of the vets who aren't needed any more. Signing Stamkos to a big, long-term contract at this point in time doesn't fit into what the Flames should be doing. If in 2 years time there's cap room then the Flames should go after a top player.

Guys Stamkos isn't signing with the Flames. The Flames can't fit the cap hit and retain their young players and address the goaltending and if he wants to go to a rebuilding team he will go to the Leafs.

???????
Ovechkin used to score 100+ points a season (or at least that pace). Even when you account for the reduction in league scoring, he has fallen off in the last 4 years. That's natural due to age.
Crosby and Kane are probably the only forwards I'd have in my tier 1 right now (and really Crosby's start to the season could arguably pull him down).

He use to score 60 goals, now he will score 45?
He's older and has fallen off. Are you saying he is as good as in his prime? Players get older, it happens
However, for his age he is still amazing and I would say he is Tier 1! Unless Tier one only includes Patrick Kane

He's a ####in' all star, he doesn't have time to worry about things like what his pupils look like.

When you score more goals than everyone else in the league consistently, you're not falling off. You're still at the very tippy top of the mountain. Who cares if he scores less than he did when he was 20. He's still the best goal scorer in the league. Lol, slowing down. Everything is a fricking technicality these days around here.
