Yeah, July and August are almost always the two warmest months in Calgary. I think it's a bit premature to write off a summer only a few days into July.

Getting the same kind of crazy thunder as we had before the monsoon. Radar site is down for me, any reports?

Yeah the site is down.
Heavy rain and corn to pea ish sized hail by Deerfoot city. Thunder cracks sound like they're almost directly ahead.

The hail has been coming down in waves since around 4:55. It seems like it's hailing for 5 minutes, heavy rain 10, hail 5, rain 10 and this is the third wave of hail now. Kinda weird.
EDIT: Back to rain now.

Raining buckets over here but no hail to speak of, thankfully.

I left the south end of Calgary as the storms were approaching. Glad I didn't stay and left early.

It is raining in the 'Hood!
This is what we needed. Just some nice, consistent rain. Not a storm, not the Apocalypse, just some nice rain.

There's rain, and then there's storms that do millions in damage. This is the latter.
Not sure this is what we needed by any objective measure.

Did anyone get hit that hard? Sounds like there was some scattered pea
Sized hail around but nothing too serious?

Not from hail, from flooding. Cars, basements, etc.
I'm at my friend's house in the NW helping them cleanup. Yard is obliterated.

This is Calgary man...it all depends on where you are.
I'm looking out my window right now at a drizzle. I've not seen any lightning nor heard any thunder, this is just a nice, light rain.
It might be Apocalyptic in other places, but I dont know that.

It was interesting driving up McKnight as it reverted to its previous life as a creek. Funny how nature doesn't care about our pavement. But ya, it was wild rain up here. Epic. So it was nice to see my basement hadn't flooded when I got home, my mitigations must have worked.

Yeah it's not lost on me how incredibly localized our severe weather events can be. A drop of rain here, a few subdivisions over there's water halfway up the car doors and the street is a small river.

I know. Its messed up.
One neighbourhood could be drowning and two blocks away they're having a lovely picnic.
Its insane.

In the Beltline we were just treated to an awesome lightning show followed by steady, normal amounts of rain. I'd say I'm shocked to hear parts of Calgary got hit that hard, but as you said, it all depends where you're at.
Sorry about what happened to the NW residents, ugh

Yet just a little north, we got nothing. It rained later in the evening, but none of that downpour that flooded Deerfoot north by 32nd off ramp again.
