If he coyotes would bite on all of our picks (except maybe we keep a second or third) for Hanafin, it would be great for the Flames and probably a big win for the coyotes as they're going to need good young affordable talent in their system for when they relocate. It would be a gamble as this draft is really deep and we could find a gem in one of the rounds and get a good defenseman that this team needs but we'd be getting that in Hanafin.

If the devils or flyers would be willing to trade picks and we could get Proverov, especially if it's just for picks, we should jump at the chance.

I agree that the devils and flyers would be much more likely to do this trade, since they really need larger quantities of youth.

It would be nice to get Prov.

That being said, I don't think any team has ever traded down in exchange for all of the other team's picks. I highly doubt it will happen as there would be too many prospects that are around the same age.

In news that's going to catch fire in Buffalo and Vancouver, Sabres GM Tim Murray tells WGR 550 the club could buy out Cody Hodgson.

Hodgson a buy-out target? I still wouldn't mind taking a shot at him on the Flames. Big-ish RW/C with a RH shot? At worst you bury him like Setoguchi if he doesn't work out.

Burke has said that he does like giving out the "last chance" one year contracts. I like this for the Flames. If he works out as a reclamation project, it would also put the screws to the Canucks.

One bad season on the worst team in the league doesn't make him Setogouchi. If he is bought out he will bounce back somewhere else no problem.

The Hodgson stuff is kind of old news. Was reported months ago by Friedman or McKenzie.

That said don't the Flames have enough C/RW in the system right now with Colborne, Shore and Jooris? Bringing in Hodgson means the Flames will likely have to move one of Shore or Jooris (assuming they will give Hodgson at least a couple of months chance at the start of the season like they did Setoguchi)

@25 years old he'd worth a shot at a RW slot. Always earned. Nothing is ever penciled in for Hartley aside from the usual guys like Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Hudler.

I'm saying it's worth a shot to see if he can get it in camp. if not, no loss.

eh... still don't think he will want to come to Calgary. He wanted out of Vancouver because he was behind Kesler and Sedin.

I can see him go to Toronto, Carolina or Arizona before he comes to Calgary.

So what your saying is, you don't want Hodgson to try out with the Flames got it. You have no clue if he'd come to CGY or not. At any rate, if he came and earned a spot I think it would be good for both the team and him. I mean, if he wanted to come here of course.

Regarding Hodgson.

There's nothing there, no drive no heart. A guy that hopes to get by on talent alone. He is exactly what you don't want on your team. Give me the guy that wants the challenge of beating out the other prospects/players.

Buffalo fans have complained that Hodgson shows no effort in his own zone. His offensive production is not worth his defensive deficiencies.

How about you don't put words in my mouth?

I am pretty indifferent if he comes here. I can see the negatives and positives in both.

Like I said other teams can offer him a better opportunity than the Flames and give him a more opportunity to play in the NHL than having to earn a spot straight out of training camp.

Toronto for example would probably give him half the season before waiving him. Flames really can't give him that long as they have other waiver eligible players they would have to move to keep him on the roster.

Wow looking at the details of Hodgsons buyout he really cost himself a lot of money. This doesn't look like one of those buyouts where the guy ends up earning more in the long run

I wouldn't mind if he came here, but like almost every player that is mentioned, other teams make more sense.

I have a feeling we're going to trade for Patrick Sharp, but that's probably just gas. I'm never right when I have a feeling about trades anyway.

I still hope we can somehow trade for TJ Oshie preferably without giving up our first but that's probably what it would take at the least.

Hodgson doesn't have the mental toughness needed to be a pro in this league. A one year tryout deal would be fine, but I don't think he'd accept it and even if he did he would probably face the same fate that Setoguchi did, but quicker.

I don't see a fit with Hodgson here. In fact, I'd rather we play Raymond than having Hodgson. It's a waste of a roster spot, would much rather have Jooris and Shore playing over Hodgson.

I think Oshie would be one of the only players in the NHL that could legitimately be on the block that I would move our first rounder for.

EDIT: Scratch that. I thought he was signed for four years, not two. That changes my view.

The Penguins are not going to resign either Martin or Ehrhoff.

https://twitter.com/MAGodin/status/609068894666518528

So that means the Pens are going to be nuking the team it seems and going into full rebuild mode again.

I wonder if Malkin is traded this year?
