Only way I would trade Hubby for Dubois is if you needed a cheap buyout, otherwise no thanks.

I don’t see Huberdeau good enough to be one of tbe 4 best wingers on a good team anymore . So you’ll have an overpaid 3rd line winger blocking younger guys

It’s actually easier to hide an overpriced D then a overpriced winger IMO as D are harder to acquire average quality then wingers who are a dime a dozen
Nurse is awful. He looks terrible playing sheltered minutes behind Ekholm and Bouchard. If Huberdeau can even average 45 points a year he is better than Nurse. It is far far easier to acquire a 5/6 dman than it is to acquire a 50-60 point forward. So far it appears that Huberdeau is a 55 point guy or so.

The average team had 3.5 forwards better than Huberdeau in terms of point production and 10.5 forwards who were worse. That puts Huberdeau in the top 25% of NHL forwards.

The top 25% of NHL dmen would mean that all one would have to do is find 56 dmen. That is less than 2 dmen per team. There are probably 100 or more dmen that are better than Nurse. Calgary has two of them minimum, Edmonton probably has 3 and Vancouver has at least 4.

Put another way, there were 7 other teams playing in the second round. On those 7 teams each team had on average at least 4 dmen who were better than Nurse and his own team probably has 3. There were probably 60 dmen in the playoffs this year who were demonstrably better than Nurse.

It is far far easier to hide an underperforming 50-60 point winger than it is the hide a 9.25 million dollar 5/6 dman.

If you could buy out a Huberdeau for about $15M, would everyone jump at that?

I believe so.

So, you make that trade every day, and buyout Dubois.

The strength of the players is not relevant.

Each to their own but that looks like backwards thinking.
Hubby doesn’t play Center … soooo

And he’s a top 4 winger or completely useless in the way forward line are structured (usually)

So it’s top 4 wing vs 6 D . At best 6 wingers for top 3 lines vs 6 D

I don’t see very much good in Huberdeaus game . I guess he was ok when things didn’t matter and picked up some PP assists .

I think Nurse looks horrible too . But so do all Edmonton D … for decades

So I would take the chance with proper defensive coaching and structure Nurse could turn into something .

I suspect Huberdeau will look worse and worse each season going forward as he ages . Hopefully I am wrong.

On a pure points view perspective he was worse but his play following his horrible start was far superior to anything we had seen.

If Huby starts the season like he ended last year than he should end the year at around 70 points.

Time will tell.

Very fair comment. There was a lot of talk about it being Sutter, adjusting to a new city, the fact that he was seeing a sport psychologist, finally feeling confident again and that fans would be surprised.

He was on a 63 point pace after the new year started.

He needs to not just start the year like he finished but continue for the next 6 months without a slump. That gets him to 63 points.

I agree he looked better at the end, but that’s a very low bar.

These are humans still. If his confidence was crushed like he said it was, a summer with a psychologist doesn’t just fix those issues. Mental health and physical health are 2 very different things.

I don’t ever see him being a 100 point player again, and he even admitted himself he’s striving to be a 70-80 point player.

And give up $73.5M?

That would certainly be a shock.

Petterson for Huberdeau.

Both players could use a change of scenery!

I’m with you on this; he really found his game in the second half of this year and quietly put up decent point totals in those games. He definitely has the talent, that hasn’t been lost. Screw the haters, personally I’m excited to see what he does next year.

#28 + #60ish to Toronto for #23

#23 + Markstrom to Jersey for #10

#10 + #41 + Pelletier to Montreal for #5

Draft Iginla and Catton

Trading a good 2nd and Pelletier to move up 5 spots to select a player in that same 3-12ish grouping would be insanity.

But don't mind the rest of it.
