Of course it is.
And I think it's 99.9% likely that they've discussed about a dozen bad cap players coming back in trades this week.

Man, I'm obviously biased but it sure seems like every deal Connie tries to make is put through the grinder by the other team. Whereas, Chicago is getting a 1st, Leafs are getting a 1st etc.
Frustrating, just want decent deals and not have the other GM try to low-ball us at every turn.

At this point, I’m not worried about the flames moving up the standings even if Kadri is not traded.
I’m more worried about his value plummeting as he struggles down the stretch because of how frustrated he will be for not being traded. The guys on barn burner were just alluding to their scout sources saying how mad Kadri will be if he is not traded today. The last time we saw a sulking Kadri was the last few months of Sutter as head coach. It did not look good.

Yes, but that bad contract needs to exist on the team you're dealing with, and not every team has one that's just as good to ship off as having Calgary retain.
Plus, often the bad contract guys have NTC's or NMC's, so they'd have to be fine with waiving to go to Calgary, which frankly isn't likely.
So yes, possible option, but if it was easy it'd be done already.

Looks like Flames has one concrete plan and hold it until end.

The Flames better be careful because if they don't move Kadri soon the chances of being stuck with that contract increase significantly. We're already screwed with Huberdeau. We don't need two of those contracts.

I'm not too worried about the contract. It'll expire before the Flames need the cap space.
I'm worried that he's a guy that could really spoil the young room if he rides out his contract in frustration.

He signed the contract and veto'd moves. It goes both ways!
And personally I don't think the difference in return (even if he is sulky) is going to make or break this rebuild.

Not sure if this has been shared, but the boys on Barn Burner said they have heard that if Kadri isn’t traded today the Agent and the player are going to be super pissed off!
Not good, not good for that room

I would be very surprised if Huberdeau plays 82 games combined over the rest of his deal - he was already a replacement player before a surgery that has only one real success story in league history.

That would be the preferred scenario for sure but I'm not sure how many teams have a bad contract with 2-3 years of term left that are also looking to move for Kadri.
They would have all that data right now IMO because I don't think the offers or the situation gets better in the offseason for Kadri.
They would have all the offers on the table. They would know if they had bad contracts they could take in return or if they would require retention.
I think my point is more the Flames would have all the data they need to make the decision right now, and I don't think it changes a ton in the offseason. And it feels like the market is telling them they need to retain on the player if they want to move him.
|
They are currently against a wall because they have only one slot left.
They would be well within their rights to question what having a slot used for three years could do to future trades and be hesitant as hell to do it.
They wouldn't have all the data for what their needs for slots will be in those three years.

Sit him then. If he wants out so bad then don't block trades. Christ is he 8 years old?

Well, if the rumours are true that he wouldn't waive for two teams with a good offer on the table then he did it to himself. Maybe he thought they Flames would get him to Avs no matter what

Sportsnet guys are spot on, you can’t make an emotional decision and just move on from Kadri. Have to make sure you get the proper value for him. Really good stuff from Sportsnet today, that is exactly what every single Flames fan should hope Conroy’s outlook is today.

Yeah kadri can't be angry if he's blocking trades to contenders and being that picky. The flames aren't giving you away just to make you happy
