You didn't read the thread. Someone said exactly that. I'm using it as hyperbole to say you don't just trade Kadri to say you did a trade.

Dreger's idea of "good offers" are often not what the Flames want or need. They usually involve players who don't fit a rebuild. Like that supposed LA return.

A dark horse has gotta be Detroit with their cap space, though we don't typically see Yzerman ship out young assets for vets. Not sure if Copp is a 2C that gets you where you want to go.

Minnesota is probably going to have to fork out 16M to try and sign Quinn next offseason, but theirs never a guarantee he stays so if I'm Guerin I'm pushing the chips in now.

That's exactly the way it looks absent getting a centre back. Which is possible - Kadri is taking someone's spot on the new team.

WRT Kadri - buyout implications on retention explains the Flames reluctance and makes the magnitude of retention far less relevant....so it becomes a yes/no thing and a harder gap to bridge.

I also understand why teams would want Calgary to retain and this becomes too hard to do when teams have limited flexibility and a short time frame.

Jives with a lot of commentary this week from the experts and may explain why it hasn't happened. I get why the offseason may make more sense in terms of timing.

Perhaps this became evident and it explains the willingness to move Weeger. Perhaps that made keeping certain vets more of a priority. Who knows.

Can't figure out Coleman unless it's due to limited destination options or some view on where the market is going.

Could be a similar situation as the Markstrom trade, where Conroy didn't blink and ended up making a better trade after the deadline. Plus it doesn't hurt that Coleman specifically becomes an expiring contract.
